Dong Yingku said that in the winter of 2002, he came to Xiaotangshan to sell clothes. In October 2003, many fur sellers came to the market, which diverted his business and affected his income. At noon on the day of the incident, Dong Yingku was selling goods at his stall. "My stall is directly opposite the market entrance, so customers can see my goods as soon as they enter," Dong Yingku said. However, Zhao, who had a stall to the left of the market entrance, would shout to attract customers whenever someone entered. Seeing Zhao taking away many of his customers, Dong Yingku became angry and went to Zhao's stall to reason with him. The two started fighting after exchanging only a few words. "In the heat of the moment, I grabbed a knife from a nearby hardware stall and stabbed him," Dong Yingku said. After stabbing Zhao, he ran to the restroom to wash his face and threw the knife into the trash. Fearing for his life, he immediately took a bus to Beijing Station and then took a train to Heilongjiang.

According to a report by the Beijing Evening News (reporter Sun Siya), Dong Yingku, a man from Liaoning Province selling clothes in a market in Changping District, believed that Zhao, a fellow vendor, was stealing his customers and consequently stabbed him to death. After committing the crime, Dong Yingku fled to Northeast China, living under an assumed name and working odd jobs until he was captured by the police nearly eight years later. Yesterday, it was reported that the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court sentenced Dong Yingku to life imprisonment for intentional injury.

The prosecution charged that at around 14:00 on December 16, 2003, while operating his clothing stall in Yinzhu Market, Xiaotangshan Town, Changping District, Dong Yingku believed that Zhao, who also operated a clothing stall in the market, was competing for his customers. As a result, Dong Yingku stabbed Zhao multiple times in the head and shoulder with a sharp knife, causing fatal cranial injuries that ultimately led to Zhao's death despite medical efforts. Dong Yingku was apprehended on July 15, 2011.

It was understood that the public security authorities launched an investigation into this case on December 17, 2003, and registered Dong Yingku as a fugitive online. On the morning of July 15, 2011, at 8:30 AM, traffic police officers of Liaoyang City noticed a suspicious man riding a motorcycle without identification or a driver's license and brought him back for review. The man claimed to be named Zhao Liang, but after repeated questioning and online verification, it was determined that he was Dong Yingku, a fugitive wanted by Beijing police. Dong Yingku was escorted back to Beijing for interrogation on July 20, 2011.

"I got off at a small station, I don't even know the exact address," Dong Yingku said. Afterwards, he worked in rural areas near Heilongjiang for about three years. Around 2007, he worked while making his way back to his hometown in Liaoyang. By July 2010, he arrived in Liaoyang City and worked as a laborer on construction sites. On July 15, 2011, he was caught by the police while riding his own motorcycle to work.

The court ruled that Dong Yingku was guilty of intentional injury and sentenced him to life imprisonment. He was also ordered to compensate the victim's family with over 440,000 yuan.
