English Major Test Band 4 (TEM4)

Test Date: April 21, 2012

Test Time: 8:30-10:45 (no break in between)

Test Process:

8:15 - Entry to the examination room. Invigilators will check the admission ticket, ID card, and student card. (Candidates who are more than 15 minutes late after the official start of the exam are not allowed to enter the examination room. Candidates may leave the examination room only 30 minutes after the official start of the exam.)

Before the exam starts, draft paper, test papers, and answer sheets will be distributed.

I. Listening Comprehension (35min): 8:30-9:05

I. DICTATION The teacher starts playing the recording; dictation is done on subjective answer sheet A. The dictation is played four times, with two minutes left on the tape for students to check their work. Subjective answer sheet A is collected around 8:50.

II. a. CONVERSATION About 3 passages, 10 questions

b. PASSAGES About 3 passages, 10 questions

c. NEWS BROADCAST About 4 passages, 10 questions

After receiving the test paper, candidates should make good use of the time to carefully read all the questions in part II. Faster candidates can also start the reading comprehension section.

II. Cloze Test (15min): 9:05-9:20 20 questions

III. Grammar and Vocabulary (15min): 9:20-9:35 30 questions

IV. Reading Comprehension (25min): 9:35-10:00 4 passages, 20 questions (time is tight) Objective answer sheet is collected at 10:00.

V. Writing (45min): 10:00-10:45

a. Major Essay. For the major essay, remember to write neatly and beautifully. Spend 3-5 minutes outlining, create a roughly balanced three-part framework, ensure a clear central idea in the beginning, include topic sentences and obvious logical order conjunctions in each paragraph of the main body, and conclude by summarizing the previous text and elevating the theme. If you don't know how to conclude, restate the central idea of the article. If there's time, spend 2-3 minutes checking for minor issues in the essay.

b. Minor Essay. Ensure the format of the minor essay is correct, the tone meets the content requirements, and the language doesn't need to be overly complex as long as it clearly conveys the message.

At 10:45, the final collection of papers occurs, and the exam ends.

Editor's Warm Reminder:

1. Entering the room at 8:15 means most candidates will need to wake up around 7:00 am. It is recommended to sleep early the night before to ensure adequate rest. Staying up late at this point could be counterproductive.

2. Bring your admission ticket, student ID, national ID, 2B pencils, eraser, and black ink pen. It's best to bring extra pens.

3. The test duration is long, the atmosphere is tense, and there's no break in between, so remember to go to the bathroom before the exam even if you don't feel the urge. Drink less water before the exam.

4. Remember that there are two paper collections during the exam, so arrange your time reasonably.

5. No matter how tight the time is, ensure that the school name, your name, and admission number are filled out correctly; otherwise, all your efforts will be wasted.

6. Finally, adjust your mindset, believe in yourself. What's there to fear about TEM4? In the end, you'll conquer it!
