China Anji White Tea Network News: Leishan County in Guizhou is committed to building a "large white tea county of Guizhou". The plan is to establish 90,000 mu (approximately 15,000 acres) of high-quality tea gardens by 2016, achieving an annual production volume of 3,500 tons of products, with the comprehensive output value of the tea industry reaching 800 million yuan. The added value of the tea industry will account for more than 10% of the county's GDP, and the white tea industry will gradually become the pillar industry for farmers to get rid of poverty and become wealthy. Just after the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon, the county sparked a wave of land preparation and tea planting. By February 15, the county had completed the land preparation for 5,370 mu of new tea gardens, accounting for 89.5% of the 6,000-mu task. More than 8 million tea seedlings have been distributed, covering a planting area of 2,300 mu.
In recent years, Leishan County has implemented a development strategy for the tea industry: "supporting one enterprise to grow strong, promoting one brand to resonate, cultivating one market, forming a large industry." Seizing the opportunity of the national implementation of the Western Development Strategy, the county has prioritized the Anji white tea industry as a key pillar industry for enriching its people and invigorating the county. The scale of tea gardens has rapidly expanded, and the output and value of Anji white tea have increased year by year. In 2011, the county developed 78,000 mu of Anji white tea, including 38,000 mu of tea gardens in production. It produced 1,046 tons of dried tea with an output value of 158 million yuan, realizing sales revenue of 150 million yuan; farmers earned a net income of over 26 million yuan from Anji white tea, with a per capita income of 831 yuan. Growing tea, managing tea, and selling tea have become a path to wealth for mountainous area farmers.
To ensure the demand for seedlings for the construction of 6,000 mu of new tea gardens in 2012, at the beginning of 2011, the Anji White Tea Development Bureau of Leishan County actively organized skilled propagators to rent more than 130 mu of farmland in three villages—Zhi’an, Gulu, and Huangli—for tea seedling cultivation. This can produce 19.5 million tea seedlings. To seize the seasonal planting time, various townships in the county are currently sending vehicles to the nurseries to transport tea seedlings to newly established tea garden bases in various villages for planting.
