A woman attempted suicide by jumping into the river, her life hanging by a thread. "A woman has jumped into the river attempting suicide, come quickly to rescue!" At 10:20 PM on the 22nd, the Jimo Public Security Bureau 110 emergency service received a public alert that a woman had jumped into the river at the Mo River Bridge on Zhenhua Street in Jimo City.
On the 23rd, Captain Li Xiufeng of the Third Detachment of the Public Security Brigade of the Jimo Public Security Bureau told reporters that after receiving the alarm, he led the police officers together with the Tongji Police Station officers to the scene. The temperature had dropped to -5℃, and the river surface had frozen. The police discovered that the bridge was at least 6 meters above the water level, and a woman was floating in the river, only her head visible. The police shouted to the struggling woman in the river: "Hold on, we will rescue you immediately!"
At this moment, Corporal Yu Lin quickly descended the ladder, taking over from Guo Kun and holding the woman while letting her step on his head to climb up. Li Xiufeng also climbed down the ladder, grabbing one of the woman’s arms to pull her up. Through everyone's efforts, they successfully saved the suicidal woman onto the shore. The 120 emergency personnel immediately took the woman to Jimo City People's Hospital for treatment.
The firefighters from the Zhenhua Street Fire Station of Jimo arrived with a hook ladder and safety ropes. "The woman only had her head exposed, her whole body submerged in the water, her hands seemingly gripping something," recalled Deputy Platoon Leader Guo Kun of the Zhenhua Street Fire Station.
According to the police, the woman claimed to be surnamed Liang, originally from Anhui Province, 26 years old, and running a dry cleaning store in Jimo. Due to emotional issues, she was feeling unwell and made an extreme decision. She recounted that at the moment of falling into the water, her survival instinct made her struggle fiercely, and she encountered a rope-like object hanging from the bridge, which she clung to, preventing her body from sinking further.
The inn owner tracked her all the way here and promptly called the police upon seeing her jump. "Fortunately, the police and firefighters arrived in time to save her life."
Without hesitation, Guo Kun let the other soldiers tie the rescue rope around him and then quickly descended the hook ladder onto the river surface. Upon reaching the bottom of the ladder, he found there was still about a 2-meter distance to the water. "It was pitch black under the bridge, and I could vaguely see that the drowning woman was frozen stiff and unable to speak, in imminent danger of sinking!" Guo Kun didn't hesitate and jumped into the bone-chilling river.
In the critical moment, the firefighter jumped into the ice-covered river to rescue the suicidal woman. Under the joint efforts of the police and firefighters, they ultimately managed to save the suicidal woman to shore. Currently, the suicidal woman is out of danger and is receiving treatment at the hospital.
