Electronic scales, electronic platform scales, electronic balances, electronic floor scales have now entered the weight loss channel... This feeling is great, and it has given me a lot of confidence. At the end of 2009, I started planning to lose weight, even bought books on weight loss, but kept procrastinating because I didn't know if I could succeed. By the end of 2010, my weight was 142 pounds.
Let's briefly review my weight loss history: In February 2007, I planned to have a child, but I thought my body wasn't in good condition and needed adjustment. After a year and a half of conditioning, I conceived my son when my weight reached 140 pounds. During work at the company, everyone would eat heartily in the afternoon, and I would also eat at home in the evening (at that time, we ate very greasy food at home, as my husband liked oily dishes). As a result, all four people in our office were overweight. We even had a human scale in the office specifically for me to weigh myself, watching my weight increase constantly—it was quite funny.
During the one and a half years preparing for pregnancy, I exercised hard and reduced my weight from 140 pounds to 116 pounds. To conceive, I worked out intensely at the gym, sweated profusely, and changed my diet. I used to love drinking beverages, eating meat, and consuming greasy food, so I gradually changed these habits—first by not drinking sweetened drinks, which was really difficult since I had been drinking them for many years. When I went into convenience stores, I usually headed straight for the beverage section, and there were drinks everywhere at home. Back then, I hardly drank plain water. Realizing the severity of the problem, I bought a kettle and started drinking water. At first, I drank various teas, as I wasn't yet accustomed to drinking plain water, and slowly transitioned to drinking plain water, a process that took a long time to complete. Then I started eating less meat. I adopted an extreme method: I boiled seven kinds of vegetables in a large pot, and whenever I felt hungry, I would eat from that pot. After seven days, my weight dropped slightly, and most importantly, I found that I wasn't as fond of meat anymore. Seizing the momentum, I increased the amount of vegetables at home. People from Northeast China aren't particularly fond of vegetables, but I forced myself to eat them, cooked or raw, regardless of how they were prepared. It was effective, and my taste for food became lighter over nearly a month. Despite some difficulties, the feeling was still excellent.
I discovered that if I didn't sleep well, I would feel extremely hungry the next day, especially when I was tired, craving food and never feeling full. The solution was ensuring adequate sleep and living a regular life, which felt wonderful. My complexion improved significantly, combined with exercise and eating light meals. After one and a half years, my weight was genuinely down to 116 pounds, reaching the ideal weight for pregnancy, giving me a great sense of accomplishment. That was my first successful weight loss experience.
I am someone who gains weight easily, and I have always had a good appetite. After conceiving my son, I focused on his health and maintained a positive mood without considering controlling my weight. Consequently, my weight increased rapidly. From 116 pounds when I got pregnant to 170 pounds upon entering the hospital for childbirth, this weight seems terrifying now. My baby only weighed 3300 grams at birth. You can imagine how bloated I looked after childbirth. Since I was breastfeeding, I continued eating without restraint, breastfeeding my son for 14 and a half months. During this period, I could only wear maternity clothes because I was too fat to find suitable clothing, nor did I have time to go shopping. So I remained obese until the end of 2010, when my son had been weaned for almost six months, and my weight was still 142 pounds. I decided to lose weight but suddenly felt very discouraged, despite having successfully lost weight once before. I was still confused and even bought a book on weight loss, reading it twice but still hesitating to start. I think I wasn't mentally ready at that time. Time passed until June 2011, when an accidental insult sparked my determination to lose weight. On June 26, 2011, I started losing weight, writing down my weight that day on the calendar—70 kg. Then I wrote down my expected weight for the following week on my desk calendar and set a goal to lose 0.5 kg per week. It was summer, not too difficult, and every morning, I would weigh myself and record it on the calendar. By the fifth day of each week, I paid special attention because I required myself to meet the goal. Thus, I completed my task every week. After two months, I had lost 4 kg, which was crucial for building confidence. Since it was summer, losing 8 pounds made me feel much more comfortable. However, I knew this was just the beginning. To control my weight, I started steaming various vegetables and serving them cold. For balanced nutrition, every morning, I would make soy milk (using yellow beans, red beans, black beans, sesame, peanuts, and later adding walnuts, mixing them into soy milk; during summer, I added mung beans, which both my son and I loved). Thanks to the nutrients provided by the soy milk, I lost weight while maintaining a good complexion and red cheeks. Most importantly, I psychologically felt that I wasn't lacking in nutrition and wasn't worried about poor health. This time, I gradually developed the habit of finishing my meals before 4 p.m., not eating anything after 4 p.m., which was very important and effective. Another point, I slowly realized that I really didn't need to eat as much as before. Eating too much made me feel bloated. After eating, I developed the habit of standing for 20 minutes, whereas previously, I might have been lying down. Every month, I set goals for myself, setting a total target hoping my weight would be around 98 pounds ideally. But I couldn't get too thin too quickly. For example, now that I'm back to 116 pounds, I plan to adjust for two months. Losing weight shouldn't be rushed; it's important to let your body adapt slowly. I plan to start reducing again after two months, aiming to reduce to 106 pounds, then adjust for another two months before continuing to reduce. Another very important point is taking care of your body while losing weight. After bathing, you must apply lotion all over your body—I use Mary Kay's slimming series—to prevent loose skin. Facial care goes without saying—you must persist daily. Also, hand care is essential. It would be terrible if your body appeared wrinkled after losing weight. It would be better to stay overweight.
The key takeaway from my weight loss journey is that setting goals is crucial. You must set an overall goal for yourself and then divide it into segments, making plans accordingly. You should never rush things and ensure weight loss is done under the premise of ensuring good health. It's best not to take medication because the essence of weight loss is changing unhealthy habits. Weight gain comes from eating, and weight loss involves changing eating habits. If you rely on medication without changing habits, you will likely rebound or even gain more weight, which undermines confidence in weight loss. When you have free time, imagine what your ideal weight looks like, the clearer the better, as it provides more motivation. Additionally, give yourself encouragement occasionally. On the fourth day of the Chinese New Year, I bought myself a very beautiful pair of pants, which were very slim but fit perfectly. Initially, I tried the large size, but I asked the shopkeeper for a smaller size. After removing my thermal leggings at home, the pants fit perfectly—how exciting! These pants made me look incredibly slim. Wow, I was amazed at my progress, as just over half a year ago, those pants were worn by others. I kept those pants because they were meant for spring and autumn, but they gave me immense satisfaction, making me feel it was worth it. After losing weight, my body feels lighter, and I don't get tired as easily as before, feeling full of energy.
The most critical point is what I mentioned earlier: entering the weight loss channel gives me immense confidence in reducing my weight to the ideal level. Or rather, I know that if I want to lose weight, I can succeed, and this feeling is fantastic!
Believe in yourself—if you want to lose weight, you can succeed!
