Birthday cards are designed to cater to the diverse personality ranges of many different people, and as such, birthday cards can vary in moods, types, and sizes. The best place to find low-cost cards is to go to a discount store like Walmart. Specialty stores like Hallmark, on the other hand, are places where people who want something more than the standard card shop might be willing to spend the extra amount. As with any other type of purchasable product, birthday cards can also be bought online; these can be purchased individually or you can buy assorted cards for various occasions in bulk. Alternatively, you can send them electronically via email; many websites allow you to choose the type you need and then add a message to it. If you are using these services - which sometimes allow you to create animated and interactive cards - you will likely need to register in order to do so. Handmade birthday cards are favored by many for their personal touch and are easy to find at flea markets or art stores. Costco and Sam’s Club (as well as other wholesale clubs) offer them occasionally too. Despite misconceptions to the contrary, many handmade cards are reasonably priced. Usually sold in boxes, these cards retail for as low as ten dollars to as high as thirty dollars. The variety of birthday cards makes it easy to pick one for any child’s birthday, from the age of one up to the age of eighteen. Cards are also available for milestone ages; these include 21, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80. Since our society does not have a lot of people living past 80, if those are the types of cards you need, you will probably have to special order cards for 90 or 100-year-old persons. Special occasion or themed cards are fun, and many people enjoy giving cards with messages such as 'over the hill'... 'unfortunately, the ministry has failed to allocate funds for your maintenance.' An example of this type of birthday card was one my father received, which stated: "You're a national treasure." Aging can be hard, especially for men, and these cards are designed to make that situation seem less difficult by putting a humorous spin on it. Many birthday cards are designed for a much younger audience; some converge on themes that appeal to sexy women, brandy, or crude gestures, while others focus on children. If the child in your life enjoys Disney, a Disney-themed card - which includes Aladdin, Disney Princesses, Cars, and various other movie favorites - may be the answer. Disney designs their cards to be as entertaining as their movies, often making their cards sweet and always including pop-ups of their beloved characters. Of course, the best way to learn more about birthday cards is to visit the card aisle at any department store, discount store, or specialty store such as Hallmark.
