Micron Technology, located in Idaho, is the only US manufacturer of dynamic random access memory (DRAM). It is reported that due to a reduction in personal computer orders leading to lower demand and prices for memory, the company has incurred losses for the second consecutive quarter. This fall in memory prices has resulted in losses for the top three companies in the industry. Adams told reporters, "I think memory prices will not fall any further; they have already begun to stabilize." Memory chip manufacturers are striving to balance the production of memory used in personal computers with market demand to prevent the shutdown of industry plants that they spent years building. Notably, market research firm Gartner forecasts that after a 72% surge in sales in 2010, total industry sales in 2011 will drop to $29.2 billion, down 26% year-on-year. After the unfortunate plane crash last week that claimed the life of Micron Technology's CEO Steve Appleton, Adams was appointed as Chairman of the company. Former Chief Operating Officer Mark Durcan has canceled his plan to retire this year and will take over as CEO in place of Steve Appleton.
