Our 96706 hotline message (reporter Liu Defeng, Yang Chenggong, Lü Lu): At about 3 PM on the afternoon of August 8th, a fire broke out in a room on the first floor of Building 10 in Kuangshan Neighborhood. One elderly person tragically passed away in the fire, while another was injured and sent to the hospital for treatment. Currently, the cause of the fire is still under further investigation.

At around 4 PM on the afternoon of August 8th, the reporter observed at the scene of the fire that the firefighters had sealed off the area where the fire occurred. The windows facing north of the burning room were completely shattered. Several firefighters were still inside the room checking the situation after putting out the fire.

The surrounding residents told the reporter that two elderly people in their 70s lived in this room. The elderly woman was bedridden, with limited mobility, and had not left the room for nearly a year.

Neighbor Ms. Sun told the reporter that at around 3 PM on August 8th, she smelled a strong, pungent smoke. After stepping outside, she saw flames shooting out from a bedroom on the first floor of Building 10. At the same time, neighbors who noticed the fire quickly gathered around.

Some neighbors immediately called the fire department and emergency services, others broke the kitchen window with a stick to try to access the fire, while others went home to fetch water in basins to help extinguish the flames. Other neighbors borrowed a hose to connect water from a nearby office to fight the fire.

The old man, who was returning home from the market, rushed back upon hearing the news. Despite warnings from his neighbors, he bravely rushed into the room to save his wife. However, due to the large fire, both were trapped by the flames. When the firefighters arrived, they managed to rescue the old man who had attempted to save his wife. He had already lost consciousness and suffered burns to his head and hands. Accompanied by two neighbors, he was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, the elderly woman perished in the fire.

Concerned about the risk of the flames igniting nearby gas pipes causing an explosion, the neighbors promptly shut off the nearby gas main valve after discovering the fire.

Currently, the cause of the fire is still under further investigation. According to a doctor at Shandong Provincial Hospital, the burned elderly man's vital signs are stable, but he requires further examination and treatment.
