The case handlers introduced that at around 4 a.m. on April 12, the 110 command center of the Xinggan County Public Security Bureau received a request for help from the Shui Bian police station of the Xiajiang County police. The Xiajiang police, during their patrol, found a suspicious bread van with an out-of-province license plate and were about to inspect it when the driver, upon seeing the police car, immediately fled towards Xinggan along National Highway 105, requesting assistance from the Xinggan police to intercept the vehicle.

On April 14, China News Service (Ji'an) reported (Wang Haoyang, Fu Dan) that two dog thieves fled after being stopped by the police, panicking and recklessly breaking through police checkpoints. The police of both Xiajiang County and Xinggan County in Ji'an City collaborated to chase and intercept them, finally apprehending the duo within the jurisdiction of Zhangshu City.
