The young actor Da Qing, who became extremely popular for his role as Mona Rudao in "Seediq Bale," will next star in the stage play "Taipei Dad New York Mom." The play is set to premiere at the National Theater from February 24th to 26th next year, where Da Qing will take on a gay character. Da Qing mentioned that after reading the novel, what struck him most was the author's portrayal of family relationships, and he couldn't understand how a family could be so broken.
"Taipei Dad New York Mom" is an autobiographical novel by author Chen Junzhi, exploring the old and new wounds within his family, as well as discussing his own experiences as a gay man. In the stage adaptation, Jin Qin plays the role of Chen Junzhi, Da Qing portrays his gay lover, Wan Fang plays Chen Junzhi's sister, Wang Juan takes on the role of Chen's mother, Zhu Luohao plays Chen's father, and Wang Anqi plays Chen Junzhi's younger sister. This marks Da Qing's first time challenging a gay role. Despite not having any gay friends, Da Qing stated, "I am a serious person; I will do my homework."
