Chengdu Business Daily (Reporter Lan Lan) - At around 11 p.m. last night, an ambulance drove into the emergency department of the Provincial Hospital, and the doctors carried out a girl with a bloodied face. Yesterday morning, this girl from Qinggangshan Village, Jintang Township, Kangding County, was attacked by a black bear while collecting medicine on the mountain. She suffered multiple injuries to her face and hands and faced the risk of disfigurement. Currently, the surgery department of the Provincial Hospital is conducting a consultation examination, and the girl has been out of life-threatening danger.
At around 12 a.m. today, Chengdu Business Daily reporter saw at the Provincial Hospital that Wan Yujun's clothes on her chest were torn into strips, covered in blood. Some of the flesh on her arms had been bitten off. More seriously, her face was injured; her nose was obviously twisted, her lips were torn apart, and her right cheek was full of wounds. According to Wan Yujun, at around 10 a.m. yesterday, she went up the mountain to collect medicine with a female friend. After reaching the slope, they separated to gather herbs. At that moment, Wan Yujun heard rustling sounds from the bushes. Before she could react, a black bear weighing over 200 jin (approximately 220 pounds) pounced on her... The bear pinned her down and bit her, tearing her lips apart and biting her face and hands. Due to Wan Yujun's resistance and cries for help, the bear stopped attacking after a few minutes and left. Subsequently, her female companion found Wan Yujun, notified her family, and sent her to the hospital for bandaging. Because of the severity of her injuries, Wan Yujun was transferred to the Provincial Hospital for treatment the same day.
According to Nai Yongxiang, Wan Yujun's mother-in-law, there are many black bears on the mountains of Qinggangshan Village. At 57 years old, she herself had encountered black bears before, but they almost never hurt people. This was the first time she had witnessed a black bear attack a person. She mentioned that the family relies entirely on gathering medicinal herbs for survival, so in the future, they must pay attention to going up the mountain together and carrying tools when collecting herbs.
According to information obtained from the Provincial Hospital, Wan Yujun's main wounds are concentrated under the right eye socket, including a horizontal wound, a diagonal wound on the right cheek, and a through-and-through injury to the lower lip, posing a threat of disfigurement. Currently, the surgery department of the Provincial Hospital is conducting a consultation examination, and Wan Yujun has already been out of life-threatening danger.
