■ "Hubei 'miracle doctor' repeatedly prescribes outrageously expensive treatments" follow-up
Report by our reporter Liu Gang: At 5 PM on October 1st, under the coordination of the Hubei Huangshi City Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau, Long Xiaolin received 120,000 RMB in cash from Xu Chengxiang, the son of 'miracle doctor' Xu Weiyou. Prior to this, Long had written a letter of appeal to the Xu family, who then returned the money in the form of a "grant."
The patient spent 140,000 RMB on medicine in less than two months.
Long Xiaolin's son, Long Zhixiang, suffers from neurogenic deafness, which large hospitals have said cannot be cured. On March 18th of this year, the Long family sought out the renowned 73-year-old traditional Chinese medicine practitioner Xu Weiyou. In less than two months, they spent 141,000 RMB on medication, but the condition was not improved. Additionally, a patient named Zheng Xiaofeng, who suffered from cystitis, was diagnosed by Dr. Xu Weiyou with nine conditions including gastric erosion, and was prescribed over 248,000 RMB worth of medication in just over two months.
Dr. Xu Weiyou claims to possess an exclusive nationwide palm pulse diagnosis technique, as well as secret family recipes for medicinal ingredients. He also boasts that "in the past decade, tens of thousands of patients with difficult and complex diseases have been rehabilitated here."
On September 29th, our newspaper reported on this Hubei-based old TCM doctor who specializes in treating difficult and complex diseases but frequently prescribes outrageously expensive treatments, drawing widespread attention.
The drug administration issues a notice requiring the clinic to rectify its practices.
In a telephone interview, Director Xu Weiping of the Huangshi Drug Administration stated that after media reports surfaced, the drug administration department conducted investigations and sampling of the clinic’s herbs, discovering issues such as non-compliance in the procurement of medicines. Currently, a rectification notice has been issued.
Additionally, regarding the widely discussed issue of the quality of expensive herbs, according to information obtained by our reporter, the Huangshi drug administration department issued a test report on September 30th, but it has not yet been made public.
