When I design websites for my clients with SEM, I am very careful about SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Text-based SEO is easy, and almost anyone can do it. What most people don't know is that SEO also applies to images and videos. Sometimes, a website is heavily weighted towards videos and images, so here are some SEO tips for websites, etc.
SEO Tips for Images:
1. Select the Right Image
It is crucial to find the right image. Why? Because they enhance the beauty of the page and can generate some good backlinks. Studies show that images are a fundamental selling point for any website. You can find some good images on Flickr. You can also search Google Images for some excellent ones.
2. Do Keywords as Usual
Keywords should be included in the image file names. An image named ipalbum00002322.jpg doesn't contain much information. However, an image named Christmas Tree will be more specific for image website optimization.
3. Change Alt Text
Alt text will help search engines understand what your webpage is about. Since search engine spiders cannot see the images and determine their content, you need to add captions to help them understand the image. Another important area to note is anchor text. If you link the image, the anchor text should include keywords.
4. Don't Overload It
This point also applies to all types of SEO. Even if you're doing text-based SEO, don't overdo it. Ensure that titles, file names, and alt texts are short and descriptive. Don't use a full list of keywords. Your images must be optimized for website visitors.
SEO Tips for Videos:
1. Start Uploading at Home
If you want to upload your own video on your website and submit it to video sites, then first add a link on your website. This way, you can use the link by utilizing the embed code.
2. Exclusive Videos On-site
When I do video SEO, I ensure my website has something exclusive for users that's more available on my site than elsewhere. For example, sometimes I split films into two parts. The first part is available on video platforms and my website, but the second part is only on my website, so they have to come to me to learn more.
3. Keywords
Just like you include keywords in image filenames, include them in video files and their titles as well. Tags and video titles are also the same for website optimization.
4. Create a Video Sitemap
Create a video sitemap. Make it easier for search engine spiders by using sitemaps. Therefore, create a video sitemap to make your videos more crawlable and accessible. Search engine crawlers will be able to read the videos, and you'll gain the benefit of higher rankings.
5. Link Building
Build internal and external links to the videos. Videos are judged by the standard of being linked, just like other things on the internet.
6. Optimize URLs
Optimize the URL pages where you place the videos with keywords. This can be done by naming the pages using keywords. Include only one-to-one video per page for the best results.
Last Tip: Create a transcript for the video. Search engines cannot watch videos, but they can certainly go through transcripts if available. And you can always mention keywords a few times there.
