Sharp was shot within less than five minutes.
The suspect's name was Patrick Grey Sharp, aged 29. On the morning of the 17th, he drove a trailer truck loaded with explosives to the parking lot of the McKinney Police Department located in the suburbs of Dallas. Around 9:00 AM, he ignited the truck and then started firing at the police station building.
According to Doug Kowalski, the chief of the McKinney Police Department, as quoted by the Fox website on the 17th, there were ammunitions inside the truck cab that exploded immediately after being ignited.
The trailer towed by the truck was filled with wood chips, torches, gasoline, ammonium nitrate, and other explosive materials. Kowalski said these items formed an improvised explosive device, and Sharp intended to detonate the trailer but failed.
Sharp had an assault rifle, a shotgun, and a semi-automatic pistol, firing at least 100 bullets towards the police station building.
Many windows of the police station building were shattered. The police quickly returned fire. Sharp died in the gunfight, found dead in the bushes near the police station. This incident was very brief, from its start to Sharp's death, it did not exceed five minutes.
Apart from Sharp, there were no other casualties. A witness claimed that Sharp had fired at them. Kowalski said that the truth would be revealed after the autopsy results.
Just resigned a few days ago
Upon hearing about Sharp's attack on the police, his friends were shocked and confused.
Government department records show that Sharp cohabited with Eric McClellan, 43 years old, in a house in Collin County. At the time of the incident, McClellan was on vacation in Philadelphia.
After learning about the event, McClellan expressed being "extremely shocked," with no indication that Sharp would attack the police. Both McClellan and Sharp worked at a local wire company. However, this company stated that Sharp had resigned just a few days ago. McClellan's mother revealed that Sharp mentioned it was due to "internal job transfer" within the company and said he liked his new job.
