[Xinhuanet.com • Exclusive Report] On August 2, Xinhuanet.com received a tip-off from a netizen that at around 11:30, a fire broke out at No. 22, Lane 1177, Changzhong Road in Haosida Nursing Home. Five fire trucks rushed to the scene for rescue, and several elderly people were sent to the hospital with burns.

At about 12:30, the reporter of Xinhuanet.com arrived at the scene and saw that the nursing home's room near the west side caught fire, and there were still burnt marks on the exterior wall. According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the fire broke out in the dormitory of the nursing home, and several elderly people were injured and sent to the hospital, some with burned feet, others affected by smoke inhalation.

Xinhuanet.com learned at the scene that two workers happened to be working on the fourth floor of No. 16, Lane 1177, Changzhong Road when they first noticed thick smoke and open flames coming from the adjacent nursing home. They immediately stopped their work, rushed down to the fourth floor, and because it would take four to five minutes to go around, they jumped over a fence that was more than one person high, and directly rushed to the second floor of the nursing home. At that time, the corridor on the second floor was full of smoke, some elderly people had already run out, and some elderly people who were less mobile were sitting on chairs not knowing what to do. The two workers each carried out five or six trapped elderly people.

It is understood that the two workers are surnamed Xu and Zhu respectively. Mr. Zhu is an electrician. He analyzed that the fire might have been caused by old wiring, so he immediately found the circuit breaker and cut off the power.

Subsequently, the 119 emergency services arrived at the scene and quickly extinguished the fire. Among the injured elderly, three women and one man were sent to Changhai Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the accident is still under further investigation. (Reported by Xiao Junwei of Xinhuanet.com)
