The incident occurred at Qingxi Forest Park. The bright light emitted by mobile phones helped rescuers find the trapped individuals.

Dongguan News (Reporter Dong Zhe, Correspondent Tao Qian Gen) On November 27th, five young new residents of Dongguan were enjoying themselves at Qingxi Forest Park and lost track of time. As night fell, they found themselves unable to retrace their steps. In desperation, they called the emergency services. Upon receiving the call, the Qingxi Public Security Bureau, Dongguan Forest Public Security Bureau, Zhangmutou Public Security Bureau, Qingxi Forest Park Management Office, and Qingxi Fire Station quickly formed a rescue team to search the mountain. After about four hours, the five new residents were successfully rescued, with the clock striking around 1:30 AM on November 28th.

Trapped in the mountains while climbing

It was learned that the trapped Jiang, Li, Liu, and two others, all from Hunan, Henan, and Jiangsu provinces, consisted of two boys and three girls. Their ages ranged from 21, the oldest, to 16, the youngest. All worked at an electronics factory in Qingxi. On November 27th, during their day off, they decided to visit Qingxi Forest Park for a hike.

After being rescued, Liu recounted that during the day, they had climbed to the peak of Qingxi Forest Park, Baoshi Peak. After spending some time near Ziyange Pavilion, they believed they could access Guanyin Mountain Forest Park for free via the back route. Therefore, they decided to continue along the small path behind Baoshi Peak toward Guanyin Mountain. However, upon reaching the back entrance of Guanyin Mountain Forest Park, they were informed that admission required purchasing tickets. Seeing the high price, they decided to return. By this point, it was already evening. After walking for a while, it became dark. With strong winds and steep terrain, they grew increasingly confused and lost their way back.

Around 8 PM, Jiang, the oldest among them, slipped on a steep slope and injured his leg. Cold, hungry, and stuck between a rock and a hard place, the group decided to call for help after deliberating for a while.

Upon receiving the distress call, the Qingxi Public Security Bureau, Dongguan Forest Public Security Bureau, Zhangmutou Public Security Bureau, Qingxi Forest Park Management Office, and Qingxi Fire Station promptly formed a rescue team. Qingxi Town Committee member and Public Security Bureau Director Luo Jianjun also rushed to the scene to guide the rescue operation.

Mobile phone lights as rescue signals

According to the rescuers, after walking for a long time in the mountains, they suddenly noticed flickering light from one location. They immediately headed towards it. Following the light, the rescuers eventually found the trapped Jiang and the other four at a very steep section of the mountain. The light they had seen earlier was emitted from the mobile phones of Jiang and the others. At that moment, Jiang and the others were huddled tightly around a tree, cold and hungry. Subsequently, the rescuers led the five down the mountain.

At around 1:00 AM on the 28th, I met Liu and the other three who had just been rescued at the Roma intersection. After a short rest and replenishing food energy, the four appeared slightly tired but otherwise unharmed. Jiang, who sustained minor injuries, was lifted onto an ambulance that had been waiting and was sent to the hospital for treatment.
