Continuous coverage of the out-of-control BMW sports car hitting and killing a person (4)

Recently, our newspaper has continuously reported on the incident of a rich kid driving a 2.5 million yuan BMW M6 sports car that went wild and hit and killed a cyclist. Yesterday, netizens successively uploaded two videos on Youku.com. One video was marked as being filmed at "16:48:40 on May 15," while the accident happened at 16:51 on the same day. In this video, there were not only scenes of the offending car racing with another Mitsubishi sports car, but also footage of the victim Zan Xinjaio. The other video showed the chaotic scene after the accident. However, neither video captured the moment of the collision. In response to this, traffic management authorities stated that they would collect these two videos as evidence for further study.

Online appearance of the offending BMW racing video

At noon yesterday, I accidentally discovered a 14-second video on Youku.com. Next to the video, there was a line of small text indicating that it was filmed at 16:48:40 on May 15, while the accident occurred at 16:51 on the same day. From this video, I saw a Mitsubishi sports car and a red BMW M6 sports car parked side by side at a crossroads. Both cars were revving their engines fiercely. Soon, the Mitsubishi sports car accelerated at high speed, rushing out more than 10 meters in just one second. At this point, the red BMW M6 sports car started, and with a "whoosh," it rushed out more than 20 meters. Just as the two cars were chasing each other most intensely, the video ended without showing the process of the BMW M6 sports car hitting Zan Xinjaio.

At 4 p.m. yesterday, another netizen uploaded a video after the BMW M6 accident. The uploader claimed that the video was filmed at 16:52 on May 15 and emphasized that the video was absolutely genuine. The video depicted the scene after Zan Xinjaio was hit, with the BMW M6 crashing into roadside greenery, the electric bike shattered, and at least 30 onlookers at the scene. There were also many comments from citizens in the video: "Why is the BMW driving so fast?" "The electric bike is completely wrecked!" However, this video also did not show the collision process. The two videos were uploaded one day apart, whether by the same person or if deliberately cut off to exclude the collision scene remains unclear. I attempted to contact the uploader but failed to reach them.

Family recognizes the victim in the video

"The person riding the electric bike in the video is Zan Xinjaio, who wore green clothes on the day he left home." In the afternoon, I once again contacted the deceased's family. The deceased's cousin told me that they had seen the video online earlier, and the whole family cried bitterly after watching it because the video showed Zan Xinjaio alive, allowing the family to see his state before death, riding carefully. In the 14-second footage, more than half of it featured Zan Xinjaio riding his electric bike from west to east. Behind him were two sports cars parked side by side in the middle of the road, revving their engines fiercely. One was a red BMW M6 sports car, and the other was a black Mitsubishi sports car. Soon, the two sports cars zipped past Zan Xinjaio. When the red BMW M6 sports car passed, it was less than a meter away from Zan Xinjaio, traveling at an extremely high speed, approximately 100 kilometers per hour. At that moment, Zan Xinjaio seemed a bit scared and shivered slightly.

Zan Xinjaio's cousin said that the poster of the internet post on Xici titled "Eyewitness: Let me tell you the truth about the Nanjing car accident yesterday!" also mentioned that the BMW M6 sports car was constantly racing, along with the black Mitsubishi sports car. The video and the internet post were entirely consistent. They believed that the initial determination by the traffic police that the offending BMW was not involved in racing should be overturned and re-evaluated. Only by restoring the true circumstances of the accident could Zan Xinjaio rest in peace.

Traffic police collect video as evidence for research

Can the video prove that the offending driver caused the accident during the racing process? I interviewed the traffic management department regarding this matter. According to the traffic management department, they have already viewed this video and are currently investigating the situation reflected in the video as well as the identity of the videographer. "We will not easily overlook any valuable clue, striving to quickly restore the truth of the accident." The traffic management department stated that the current video does not yet fully represent the state at the time of the accident, as the video does not continue to the moment of the accident. At that time, the red BMW M6 sports car and Zan Xinjaio were traveling in the same direction, but their collision was head-on. Therefore, they are provisionally considering this video as evidence for research, but it may not necessarily become strong evidence. Currently, the traffic management department hopes that the netizen who uploaded the video can provide more videos, preferably the original version showing the collision process, making it easier to determine whether the offending driver was engaging in dangerous driving. The traffic management department expressed that they would promptly disclose the results of the investigation to the public. This report by Cao Lujie and Guo Yipeng.

Dingqiang Road Intersection

Already equipped with speed bumps

In the afternoon, I revisited Dingqiang Road. At the intersection, several workers were laying yellow-and-black speed bumps. "Three have already been installed, and according to the plan, there will be six in total," one worker told me. This was required by the traffic management department, and they previously sent people to discuss the installation location. "We've also heard about the BMW hitting someone, and these speed bumps can slow down the vehicles, ensuring safety to some extent." On-site, many passersby approved of this measure, believing it's better late than never, as many vehicles and pedestrians still pass through every day. During my interviews, I also learned that installing speed bumps is just one of the measures; later, railings will be installed in the middle of the road to separate lanes, curbing overspeed driving and drifting driving behavior from a hardware perspective.

Last night, before filing the article, I once again contacted the deceased's family. They stated that the traffic police have yet to make a final determination on the accident, but the offending party's family has already come to apologize. Although this provided some comfort to the victim's family, they still hope to soon receive the official accident handling result from relevant departments to resolve the practical issues facing this family. Regarding the offender themselves, the victim's family demonstrated their tolerance. The victim's family expressed that the offender is young, and they hope he can admit his guilt and avoid similar incidents in the future.
