Our News: Yesterday afternoon, Zeng Feng, a driver of bus No. 11 in Zhenjiang, fainted while driving due to heatstroke. Before fainting, he braked the bus that had already entered Dashikou in the downtown area of Zhenjiang, and then slumped onto the engine! More than 10 passengers on the bus reported the incident and called the traffic police on duty to handle the situation. Chen Nantao, a traffic patrol officer from Jingkou Brigade, kept praising the driver for his sense of responsibility when he arrived on the scene.
At around 4:20 PM yesterday, a young man ran to the checkpoint of Jingkou Brigade and told the traffic police: "Hurry up, the driver of bus No. 11 has fainted on the bus due to heatstroke!" Deputy Brigade Commander Wang Guangsheng and Zhang Yongjun immediately led two officers to the bus near Hualian Department Store. Upon seeing the arrival of the traffic police, many passengers on the bus said almost simultaneously: "Quick, save him!" At this time, they saw the driver lying on the engine, unconscious, drenched in sweat, and pale-faced. The officers first evacuated the passengers off the bus and immediately moved the driver to a well-ventilated area to lie down flat. They poured cool drinking water into the driver's mouth, but it wouldn't go in; Chen Nantao then brought "Shidishui" (a traditional Chinese medicine for heatstroke), and after prying open the driver's mouth with everyone's help, they managed to force some of it in. By this time, an ambulance from Zhenjiang Emergency Center had arrived. The traffic police, passengers, and medical personnel from the ambulance together lifted the driver off the bus and rushed him to the ambulance which sped towards Jiangbin Hospital.
Zhang Yongjun told reporters that during the handling of the situation, there were constantly passengers coming over to thank the driver for braking the bus before fainting. Later, the traffic police arranged for another bus to arrive, and the passengers left.
Driver Zeng Feng woke up already in the speeding ambulance. In the observation room of the emergency center at Jiangbin Hospital, we saw Zeng Feng looking exhausted. His upper lip bore traces of blood from being pried open, and his white shirt was stained yellow by "Shidishui." Dr. Song Yingchun, who received Zeng Feng, told reporters that when Zeng Feng was brought in, he appeared lethargic, weak, and had a slight fever, typical symptoms of heatstroke. She immediately provided ventilation and intravenous fluids. Because he had experienced a fainting spell, she also conducted a CT scan on Zeng Feng. Fortunately, there were no unexpected issues, but he still needed to stay in the hospital for further intravenous treatment and observation.
Zeng Feng briefly recounted the situation at the time to the reporter. He is an employee of Zhenjiang Bus Company No. 2. At the time, he was driving from "Lijia Mountain" to "Wojia Mountain." Without air conditioning and with the engine nearby, the driving cabin was extremely hot. When the vehicle reached Zhongshan Bridge Station, he began to feel dizzy and blurred vision, unable to see clearly, sweating profusely and struggling to breathe. He rested for a moment by leaning on the steering wheel. At the time, he vaguely heard a passenger get on and say: "Why is the driver sweating so much?" Feeling slightly better afterward, he continued driving to Dashikou West Station. However, upon leaving the station, he felt worse, as if he were about to die. Instinctively, he slammed on the brakes! "Once you get on my bus, I have to ensure your safety..." said Zeng Feng weakly.
