Yanji News (Reported by Zhigang Li) -- Suspecting his former employer of speaking ill of him behind his back, a man threw sulfuric acid at the other. But how serious were these "bad words" that led him to take such a heinous action?

On December 2nd last year, a restaurant owner surnamed Yu from Yanji was delivering boxed meals to customers in a residential building near Park Street. When he reached the second floor, someone threw sulfuric acid at his face and neck, severely injuring him. As a result, Yu suffered serious injuries to his face and neck, lost sight in his left eye, experienced a decline in vision in his right eye, and was classified as having sustained grievous bodily harm.

After the incident, the Park Police Station of the Yanji Public Security Bureau immediately launched an investigation. However, due to the dim lighting in the stairwell where the incident occurred, Yu was unable to provide any valuable clues or think of anyone who might want to retaliate against him, making the case difficult to solve.

Despite this, the police did not abandon their investigation. On March 15th this year, Deputy Chief Su Zhi suddenly received a phone call: "Why are you looking for me? I didn't do it!" This "protest too much" phone call immediately raised Su Zhi's suspicion. Soon after, the officers learned that the caller was surnamed Gao, a native of Yanji, who was currently working in Zhejiang.

The police immediately went to Zhejiang to capture Gao. On March 22nd, Gao was brought back to Yanji. After questioning, Gao, aged 45, confessed to throwing sulfuric acid at Yu. Regarding the motive for the crime, Gao said, "Because he was spreading bad words about me everywhere!"

It turned out that Gao had worked as a delivery person at Yu's restaurant for two days before resigning and then going to work at the West Market. During this time, Gao saw Yu chatting with a vendor, a person he also knew. Later, Gao felt that people at the West Market looked down on him and believed that Yu had spoken ill of him.

Later, he started working at a bathhouse but encountered Yu again when he came to deliver meals there. Afterwards, Gao once again felt that the people at the bathhouse looked down on him and assumed that Yu had spoken ill of him. Consequently, he ordered meals from Yu’s restaurant and threw sulfuric acid at Yu.

Currently, Gao has been criminally detained by the Yanji police. Meanwhile, Yu, who suffered greatly from the attack, never actually spoke ill of Gao.
