Missing for 8 Days: Mother and Son Reunited Through Weibo Appeal
On January 14 this year, the Xiangcheng Public Security Bureau of Zhangzhou became the first public security bureau in Zhangzhou to launch an official Weibo account. While interacting with netizens, it also accepted public appeals and helped solve problems for the people. During this time, the Xiangcheng Public Security Bureau assisted a mother and son, missing for eight days, to safely return home. Yesterday, the Xiangcheng police reported on this case.
Weibo Receives Missing Mother and Son Case
In January 2011, a netizen named "Atu Z Zhu1012" (Weibo address: http://t.sina.com.cn/1678650144) sent a plea for help to the bureau's official Weibo account on Sina Weibo. The netizen stated that a relative had gone missing with her child and attached photos of the mother and son, requesting assistance in finding them.
After investigation, it was learned that Yan Mou (female, 22 years old, from Xiangcheng), a relative of "Atu Z Zhu1012," disappeared on the morning of January 7 while taking her 14-month-old son by bus back to her in-laws' house in Zhangpu. Both families had been searching for many days without success and were forced to seek help online.
Upon receiving the alert, the Xiangcheng Public Security Bureau's official Weibo mobilized social forces, posting messages on local forums in Zhangzhou and asking netizens to help find the missing pair. The leadership of the bureau also took this matter seriously, handing the case over to the Tongbei Police Station, which investigated it as a suspected abduction of women and children.
Two County Police Forces Work Together to Find the Missing Mother and Son
The Tongbei Police Station immediately organized elite police forces, contacted the victim's family, and conducted investigations and evidence collection.
After extensive checks and visits by the bureau's police officers, it was discovered that the mother and son had lost contact after getting off the bus in Zhangpu at noon on January 7. The police immediately contacted the Zhangpu police force to jointly investigate the case. With the assistance of the Zhangpu police, on January 15, the police found the missing Yan mother and son in Zhangpu's Huoshao Pu area.
It was understood that Yan Mou, influenced by others, had run away from home with her son and rented a place in Huoshao Pu where they stayed for eight days. After learning about the situation, the police worked with Yan Mou to dispel her concerns and safely returned the mother and son home, reuniting the family after being separated for eight days.
Bureau Chief Will Conduct Weibo Governance During Spring Festival
Upon learning that Yan Mou's family had reunited, "Atu Z Zhu1012" posted two articles on Sina Weibo, thanking the Xiangcheng Public Security Bureau's Weibo for its powerful assistance. According to the reporter's understanding, since the launch of the Xiangcheng Public Security Bureau's official Weibo, it has increasingly gained the welcome and attention of more and more netizens. By January 26, the Weibo account already had over 7,500 followers.
Additionally, the Xiangcheng Branch of the Zhangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau plans to conduct a "Weibo Large Visit" activity during the Spring Festival in collaboration with the Zhangzhou Xiaoyu Community and Zhangzhou Hongyu Home. Deputy Director of the Zhangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau and Chief of the Xiangcheng Branch Lin Jun will answer questions online regarding public security issues concerning the people of Xiangcheng District from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM on February 7 (the fifth day of the first lunar month) through the official Weibo and other platforms, engaging in interaction with netizens.
