CPPCC Members Appeal: Don't Let "Researching Lottery Numbers" Ruin the Next Generation
Date: January 20, 2006, 10:39:39 Source: Hainan Daily
Haikou Evening News, January 20th - In Haikou, or in the counties, towns, and rural areas of various cities and counties, one can often see such scenes: ten people gathered in a small group, some squatting and some standing, listening to a man or woman with red face and neck talking about terms related to "numbers" and "lottery numbers" —— "Tie Zu" (Iron Soldier), "San Zi Xian" (Three Characters Appear), "Dan Tou Wei" (Single Head/Tail), "Shuang Tou Wei" (Double Head/Tail), "Zhong Du He ×" (Middle Belly Combined ×), "Tou Wei He ×" (Head Tail Combined ×)... These are the most frequently mentioned terms.
In Haikou's Donghu, Nansha Road, Haikou Farm Road, Haikou Overpass, Longkun South Road, Renmin Bridge... More and more areas in Haikou have formed sizeable "lottery markets", where people study lottery numbers like mathematicians, trying to uncover its mysteries at an alarming rate...
After returning to his hometown and witnessing these scenes, Hong Kong and Macao delegate He Hexi loudly appealed during a group discussion this morning at the Fourth Session of the Fourth Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in Hainan Province: "If we continue to 'research' like this, I'm afraid some people will 'lose their minds' (Hainan dialect, meaning go crazy). I am from Hainan, and I don't want to see our next generation producing many who go crazy because of researching lottery numbers!"
"I also feel the same way; I often see people holding long strips of paper, specifically talking about lottery numbers," said delegate Fu Hu'er. He added that while getting haircuts or buying things, he often hears discussions about lottery numbers. Some people even talk about lottery numbers on the phone or mobile phones. Why don't these people spend their energy on learning, innovation, and hard work, instead of always hoping for effortless wealth and overnight riches?
Delegate Huang Jinxiang said that some people even dream about lottery numbers and then buy them based on those dreams, which is indeed quite fanatical. To combat illegal lotteries and underground printing factories that print "lottery guides", the public security and cultural departments have spent a lot of effort, but it seems that more efforts are still needed.
It is understood that some so-called "masters" boast about their predictions being very accurate under the guise of analysis, selling lottery numbers on the market. A single number can cost 1 yuan, 2 yuan, or even more. Frequent "lottery markets" in urban and rural areas are daily staging farces.
The delegates believe that if the歪wind of "lottery markets" popping up everywhere is not curbed, and if some people are not pulled out from so-called research and analysis of lottery numbers, it will inevitably have negative effects on Hainan's economic and social development.
Accurate? Then why doesn't he just buy them himself!
- An insider exposes the secrets of the "lottery master"
Faced with increasingly crowded "lottery markets", the reporter couldn't help but wonder: "Can lottery numbers really be predicted and analyzed?"
Yesterday was Thursday. In many sections of Haikou, every Monday, Thursday, and Sunday, the "lottery markets" are the liveliest. The usual sales tactic of the "masters" is to take out chalk and "analyze" the previous period's numbers on the ground, or draw incomprehensible "curve diagrams" on a long strip of lottery number paper.
Mr. Wang, aged 43, revealed what he knew about the "lottery masters" to the reporter.
Mr. Wang often frequents the "lottery market" behind Changmao Garden. He told the reporter that he used to buy many "numbers" from the "masters", but they rarely matched the winning numbers. Later, he became scared and stopped buying. Now, sometimes he just looks, treating it as entertainment.
"I later slowly realized that if they were accurate after all the wind, rain, and sun exposure, they would have already bought the tickets themselves. Why bother being selfless and sell their research results cheaply to other lottery players?" Mr. Wang said.
Mr. Wang said that he felt that if he listened enough, he could become a "master" himself.
"It's simple, I come up with several schemes for each period, selling different numbers to different people. If Zhang San doesn't win, Li Si might, and thus my business comes."
Seeing that the reporter still didn't understand, Mr. Wang said, "For example, if I sell the numbers to Zhang San saying it's single head double tail, and to Li Si I say it's double head single tail, and to Zhang San I say certain digits must fail, but to Li Si I say these digits must win... Anyway, there are not just one or two buyers, so there will definitely be times when it coincides."
On the 17th, the day of the lottery draw, the reporter specially went to the "lottery market" behind Changmao Garden on Nansha Road to look at the chalk marks left by the "masters". The analysis seen by the reporter had nothing to do with the winning numbers "6470".
"Really can't understand, how can those things be so attractive?" Miss Zhao, a citizen, said to the reporter. Not far from her residence, there was a large-scale "lottery market", and she often saw people arguing fiercely over certain numbers. What she couldn't understand was why so many people didn't find something proper to do and wasted a lot of time studying lottery numbers.
Miss Zhao said that although she didn't buy lottery tickets, she thought that if citizens bought lottery tickets legally with a good attitude within their financial means, it was not unacceptable. But such enthusiastic study and analysis of buying lottery tickets was simply incomprehensible.
"If our relatives and friends around us, our next generation, are all influenced by this trend, then it's over!" Miss Zhao said. (Reporter Chen Chengzhi)
