Our news (reported by Wang Kal and correspondent Wu Min): The day before yesterday, in the ward, 4-year-old Liu Hongxuan who suffers from retinal cell cancer and is blind in both eyes fulfilled her wish to celebrate the New Year. She received a plush rabbit toy and ate some sweet soft candy. This girl, who has had her left eye removed and is completely blind in the right one as well, will spend the rabbit year of the Spring Festival in the hospital with her family. Liu Hongxuan is an abandoned baby that was picked up by Mr. and Mrs. Liu Yinxu. The couple, who had been married for 10 years without having children, soon miraculously conceived their own child after picking up Liu Hongxuan. With a heart full of gratitude, the couple raised Liu Hongxuan and their biological daughter. In 2007, Liu Hongxuan was diagnosed with retinoblastoma. In order to treat their adopted daughter, the couple borrowed money everywhere and even sold their house, earning them the title of "respectable adoptive parents" from netizens. Netizens have also raised medical expenses for Liu Hongxuan (as reported on October 29 last year).
In the pediatric ward of the Armed Police General Hospital, there are dozens of children like Liu Hongxuan who are battling tumors. Yesterday, the pediatric department of the Armed Police General Hospital established the "Life Guardian Club," aiming to build bridges between medical staff, patients, parents, and kind-hearted people, trying to provide some concrete assistance to the young patients.
The day before yesterday, in the ward, Liu Hongxuan kept holding the plush rabbit toy given to her by the medical staff. According to Dr. Liu Qiuling, the head of the pediatric department at the Armed Police General Hospital, Liu Hongxuan has endured seven rounds of chemotherapy with her strong will to survive. The cure rate for retinoblastoma in developed countries is over 90%, while in our country, it is only 33%. The main reason for this gap is that many Chinese patients are diagnosed at a late stage. If Liu Hongxuan can continue with regular treatment, she still has hope for survival.
