The mineral name for emerald is beryl. Due to the trace amounts of chromium in the mineral, it displays a crystal-clear and vivid green color. Beryl often forms in six-sided columnar shapes as crystalline structures. The color of emeralds is primarily determined by their chromium content. However, transparency depends on the iron oxide content; the less iron oxide they contain, the more transparent they are. If it exceeds 0.6%, the green color will darken. We know that diamonds are the king of gemstones and should be the most precious gemstone, but this isn't always the case. The price of an emerald of equal size and quality to a diamond can be 3 to 4 times higher. Therefore, high-quality deep green emeralds are not commonly seen in regular markets. Generally, they are small emeralds of 0.2-0.3 carats. High-quality emeralds of 0.5 carats already have a very high price. High-quality emeralds over 2 carats are extremely rare, and their prices are astonishingly high. Colombia is the world's largest producer of high-quality emeralds.
