Approved by the Ministry of Commerce, the exhibition period of the 106th China Import and Export Commodities Fair (abbreviated as Canton Fair) has been adjusted from two phases in one session to three phases in one session. The opening date is April 15, 2009, and it will be held in Guangzhou from October 15 to November 4. The exhibition time for each phase has been shortened from 6 days to 5 days, and the dismantling and setup period is 4 days. All three phases of the Canton Fair will take place at the Pazhou Exhibition Center of the Canton Fair, and the Liuhua Road Exhibition Center will no longer be used.
Xu Bing, Deputy Secretary-General of the Canton Fair and spokesperson, announced this news at a press conference on April 26.
According to Xu Bing's introduction, after the split into three phases, the first phase of the 106th Canton Fair will run from October 15 to 19, showcasing home appliances, consumer electronics, electronic and electrical products, computer and communication products, large machinery and equipment, small machinery, hardware, tools, bicycles, motorcycles, auto parts, building and decoration materials, bathroom facilities, lighting products, chemical products, vehicles (outdoor), construction machinery (outdoor), import exhibition area, and other zones.
October 20 to 22 is the transition period.
The second phase runs from October 23 to 27, showcasing tableware, daily ceramics, art ceramics, home decorations, glass crafts, festival items, toys, gifts and souvenirs, clocks and glasses, household goods, personal care items, bathroom supplies, woven and wicker iron crafts, furniture, garden products, metal and stone products (outdoor), and other zones.
October 28 to 30 is the transition period.
The third phase runs from October 31 to November 4, showcasing men's and women's clothing, underwear, sportswear and leisurewear, children's clothing, clothing accessories, fur, leather, down and their products, textile raw materials and fabrics, shoes, luggage, carpets and wall hangings, home textiles, office stationery, local specialty products, food, medicine and health products, medical devices, consumables, dressings, sports and tourism leisure products, and other zones.
Xu Bing introduced that after the 106th Canton Fair was divided into three phases, compared with the hosting model of the 103rd edition, significant changes have occurred. First, the scale has further expanded; second, the duration has been extended; third, all three phases are concentrated at the Pazhou Exhibition Center; fourth, the major categories and exhibition areas originally shown in the first two phases have been re-adjusted. Textile clothing, pharmaceuticals, and health products originally shown in the first phase, and suitcases, office stationery, sports and tourism leisure products, food, and local specialty product zones originally shown in the second phase, are now scheduled for the third phase; fifth, the exhibition areas have been further subdivided professionally, optimizing and reorganizing from the original 34 areas to 50 areas.
In response to reporters' questions about why the Canton Fair is being reformed into three phases, Wang Junwen, Deputy Director of the Canton Fair and Director of the China Foreign Trade Center, stated that the Canton Fair must continuously adapt to the professional trend of the international exhibition industry and strive to solve the prominent contradiction where the existing scale still cannot meet the needs of Chinese and foreign enterprises participating in the exhibition. By splitting into three phases and moderately expanding the scale, the professional level of the Canton Fair can be further enhanced, allowing more enterprises to obtain exhibition opportunities.
After dividing into three phases, the Canton Fair will no longer use the Liuhua Road Exhibition Center but will be concentrated at the Pazhou Exhibition Center. The supporting projects of the Pazhou Exhibition Center will be completed in the second half of the year, and before the opening of the 106th Canton Fair, all A, B, and C zones of the Pazhou Exhibition Center will be put into use. In addition to providing modern service facilities with international advanced levels for exhibitors and buyers, the products will be richer and more concentrated, making it convenient for buyers to concentrate on purchasing and improving procurement efficiency, attracting more international professional buyers.
Wang Junwen also pointed out that the 91st Canton Fair implemented a two-phase hosting system in 2002 and achieved great success. Over the past six years, the Canton Fair has become better and better, receiving welcome from exhibitors and buyers. The reform plan for the Canton Fair to be divided into three phases has undergone over a year of research under the supervision of the Ministry of Commerce. Through questionnaires, seminars, on-site visits, emails, and various other methods, extensive opinions were widely solicited from all relevant parties of the Canton Fair, especially from a large number of exhibitors and overseas buyers. Exhibitors and buyers generally support the Canton Fair being divided into three phases.
Wang Junwen emphasized that the China Foreign Trade Center, as the organizer of the Canton Fair, will continue to strengthen the domestic and overseas marketing network construction of the Canton Fair, increase investment, and intensify domestic and international publicity, recruitment, and business development efforts.
He also expressed that with the care and support of the central government, the support of all trading groups and chambers of commerce/associations, and the care and support of domestic and overseas exhibitors and buyers, relying on the correct leadership of the Ministry of Commerce and the Guangdong Provincial People's Government, and the full support of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government and relevant departments, the major reform of the Canton Fair being divided into three phases will surely succeed and provide more business opportunities for a wide range of exhibitors and buyers.
