On November 22-23, the APEC meeting (the 16th Informal Meeting of APEC Leaders) will be held in Lima, the capital of Peru.

This is another globally anticipated grand event following the G20 Summit.

The 2008 APEC Summit with the theme "Promoting Prosperity, Stability and Security in the Asia-Pacific Region through Cooperation" has set up six major issues. Apart from the current hot topic of the financial crisis, APEC will continue to address issues proposed at previous summits such as climate change, clean energy development, deepening reforms of free trade institutions among various countries, etc. With the increase in cross-border investments in recent years, Peru, as the host country, has proposed the new issue of corporate social responsibility for discussion.

"There is no doubt that under the background of the financial crisis, how the Asia-Pacific region takes specific measures to strengthen regional cooperation and jointly respond to the crisis should be the biggest highlight of this APEC summit," Professor Gong Zhan Kui, Director of the APEC Research Center at Nankai University, told our reporter.
