The AV Performance in Shimokitazawa
"Shimokita Glory Days" has its share of sensuality, absurdity, inspiration, and sincerity, along with some indescribable feelings. In short, it is a fun, unconventional, and imaginative Japanese drama that has caused quite a stir, earning a lot of popularity in a short time.
The Free-Spirited Expression of Shimokitazawa
Like Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, Akihabara, Asakusa, Harajuku, Omotesando, and Aoyama, Shimokitazawa in the western part of Tokyo has distinct characteristics - it is the most desirable place for young people aged 15 to 30 in Tokyo, Japan, to live.
After more than two decades of change, this area has developed a unique atmosphere - most residents are transient, some chasing dreams, others just trying to survive; there's no work schedule, no life pressure, forming a stark contrast with other areas of Tokyo.
Shimokitazawa is home to many small theaters, mini concert halls (Live Houses), live music bars, second-hand record stores, making it an absolute hub for youth culture. It also has many narrow alleys inaccessible to vehicles, making it a rare eco-friendly spot amidst the bustling city of Tokyo.
Young people have used vacant houses in Shimokitazawa to open numerous small theaters, then gather a few friends to create their own favorite small plays, often working on them for over a year. After watching a play, the audience would go to an izakaya (Japanese pub) for a drink or two. Another TV series set in Shimokitazawa, "Shimokita Sundays" (starring Ueto Aya), depicts the life in these small theaters, becoming a typical portrayal of local life.
Although Shimokitazawa may not be as modern and fashionable as other areas, it has the most genuine expression, simple yet a pure land of happiness for the young. The people here value freedom and being unrestrained.
In an unexpected move, Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) in Japan launched this Japanese drama led by AV actresses. Originally, they had planned to capitalize on the allure of AV actresses, focusing mainly on sexual appeal. And indeed, this was the case, as the directors aimed the cameras at the sensitive parts of the actresses, revealing quite a bit of skin.
Each episode features sensual scenes involving female characters. Although the show uses AV actresses as its selling point, their performances are no less impressive than professional actors', which is truly surprising. Besides having impressive figures and sweet looks, they also possess mature, experienced, and distinctive acting skills. Their respective roles are brought to life vividly - Sen's (played by Masako Rie) elder sister demeanor, Mayu's (played by Ai Hashimoto) mysterious pride, Natsume's (played by Hana) carefree attitude, Miya's (played by Yuma Amami) humor, Kaoru's (played by Chizuna Yabuki) gentle introversion, and Policewoman Nozomi's (played by Sora Aoi) adorable contradictions, as well as "bad girl" Yumi Yoko's "perverted" and "cruel" traits, all stand out sharply.
Sora Aoi's transition to serious acting without exposing herself marks a new beginning; the AV performances in the drama are handled by Hana and Yuma Amami. Despite the somewhat random nudity, viewers can find some solace in laughter.
