In the late 1970s, Qi Shiyin, a gifted student at the conservatory, finally had his rightist label removed and was assigned to teach at a primary school. He was also given a set of shabby bungalows. Qi Shiyin happily brought his wife Ai Lian and their four children - Qi Yiku, Qi Sitian, Qi Tian, and Qi Miao - to live with him. Finally, the family was reunited.

Yiku and Sitian, the two siblings, started school where their father taught. Sitian was bullied by a male classmate named Chang Jun. Yiku, who had an impulsive and strong-willed personality, got into a fight with Chang Jun to protect his sister and was severely criticized by their father. Subsequently, Sitian encountered another strange incident: there were often drawings with her name in her drawer. Qi Sitian was troubled and quietly told her brother. Yiku decided to find the person who was "bullying" his sister.

During a revolutionary song singing competition held among schools in the county, Yiku unintentionally discovered that the person who kept passing notes to Sitian was actually Chang Jun. Without thinking twice, he started a fight with Chang Jun in public, affecting the competition. In anger, Qi Shiyin hit Yiku, causing him to run away from home and not return until late at night. Qi Shiyin and Sitian found Yiku and carefully guided him, eventually helping Yiku realize his mistake.

Yiku and his younger brother Qi Tian share the same birthday. Qi Shiyin promised to buy gifts for the two children. It was supposed to be a joyous day, but on this very day, during the discussion of Qi Shiyin's confirmation as a regular teacher, Teacher Zhou from the same school raised objections!
