"Old Persimmon Tree" Episode 1 Plot Introduction
During the Anti-Japanese War, the fervent tide of resistance swept across the country. However, in Shizitang located upstream of the Yellow River, all was quiet. While returning home from the enemy-occupied area on a sheepskin raft with his nephew Liu Tiedan, whose parents had both passed away, underground party member Ma Long suddenly heard Jin Deqing, a fool, singing a Yellow River song, which greatly surprised him. Jin Deqing's mother had four sons: her eldest son Jin De was mentally challenged and stayed at home, her second son Mu De was forcibly conscripted, her third son Shui De was a teacher, and her fourth son Huo De killed the county security team captain who committed numerous atrocities by accident and was forced to become an outlaw that did not harm civilians. Jin Deqing's mother adhered to the family rule of passing down the tradition of farming and reading without practicing martial arts, and was indignant when Jin De accidentally mentioned that Huo De was a bandit.
The nearby Daliu Village and Chenjiaying Village have been fighting for a hundred years over Fengliang滩, resulting in countless casualties. Bai Cuicui, a young woman with some education, advocated breaking the clan rules and stopping the fighting, but was angrily scolded by her uncle Bai Shanmin. Her plan failed, so she came up with another one. To prevent further bloodshed, Cuicui went to persuade Chen Xiguì, the headman of Chenjiaying Village, but also failed. In order to stop the clan conflict, Cuicui helplessly promised that whoever could stop the fighting would be the man she cherished.
