The 27-episode TV series "Clear Water and Blue Sky", produced by the Film and Television Department of China Central Television and Huoxian Guanghui Film & Television Planning Co., Ltd., will be broadcast on CCTV-1's prime time starting March 20th.
On March 12th, the production crew held a media meet-and-greet to promote the upcoming drama. Pan Changjiang sang the theme song.
This TV series, "Clear Water and Blue Sky," introduces the concept of "New Rural Comedy." First, it is new in its narrative approach. Unlike previous works that focus solely on rural survival, this series elevates the perspective by focusing on farmers' attention to environmental issues. Second, it is new in its comedic expression. Common rural comedies often revolve around irrational quarrels and slapstick humor or deliberately portray characters with physical defects to elicit laughter through lowbrow means. However, the comedy in this series reflects the wisdom of farmers. Third, it is new in its realistic portrayal of rural landscapes. Past rural dramas have fallen into the misconception that "rustic" equates to authenticity. In contrast, this series captures the natural beauty of the countryside with a poetic and picturesque style.
Towards the end of last year, after the completion ceremony for the TV series "Clear Water and Blue Sky," starring Pan Changjiang, Jiang Chao, Sun Ning, Yuan Hua, and Pan Yang, there was no further news. Reports suggested it would air as a Spring Festival holiday drama, but during the festival, Zhao Benshan's "Rural Love Story 2" dominated instead. An interview with Pan Changjiang's younger brother, Pan Changyong, revealed that the series will soon premiere on CCTV-1, becoming another major rural drama following "Rural Love Story 2."
Simultaneously, reporters learned from the staff of the series that tensions between the two leading actresses, Sun Ning and Yuan Hua, might prevent them from appearing together at the premiere. This marks their first collaboration and also their first attempt at comedy. Known as "China's First Young Madame," Sun Ning and the intellectual Yuan Hua were chosen by the Pan brothers to play key roles: a fiery yet alluring village woman and a capable, independent female township head. Their performances are highly regarded by the producers, who believe this series could mark a turning point in their careers.
In the show, Sun Ning and Yuan Hua's characters are rivals, one being Pan Changjiang's girlfriend and the other his former love interest. A series of misunderstandings complicates their relationships, creating a tense atmosphere whenever the two women meet. Crew members speculate that their dedication to their roles may have blurred the line between fiction and reality. During the wrap-up ceremony, their competitive behavior left some wondering whether it was staged for publicity or if genuine tension exists between them. The truth about their rumored discord will likely be revealed at the premiere of "Clear Water and Blue Sky."
