Starring:

Kim Ha-na, Lee Beom-soo, Song Yoon-ah, Park Yong-ha

In "On Air", Song Yoon-ah plays the role of TV drama writer, Seo Yeong-eun, who is confident and domineering. In simple terms, she's a real "thorn". However, in reality, Song Yoon-ah is known for being amiable and has good relations within the industry. Song Yoon-ah herself humorously remarks that there's no need to be surprised by her performance in the show.

"There is a scene where a big-name actor doesn't want to act and personally approaches the screenwriter asking for understanding. Seo Yeong-eun becomes very upset, 'If you don't want to act, why bother coming to see me?' Even though the actor was trying to be polite, it shows how much Seo Yeong-eun doesn't give face to others." Song Yoon-ah explains.

"This character is very interesting. She's straightforward and speaks her mind, so I also felt great satisfaction while playing her. Seo Yeong-eun doesn't consider future consequences and always says what she thinks, which is completely different from the roles I've played before. Additionally, usually when we think of writers, we have an impression of simplicity, but this show portrays a very fashionable writer, which is quite special."

From Song Yoon-ah's portrayal of Seo Yeong-eun in the drama, one can find traces of the scriptwriter Kim Eun-sook.

Song Yoon-ah says, "When I first met writer Kim Eun-sook, I realized that my character was based on writer Kim Eun-sook, even down to the speaking style. In the drama, Seo Yeong-eun's mother runs a potato soup shop, and in reality, writer Kim's mother runs a potato soup shop in Ilsan. Seo Yeong-eun likes to argue with people, which is also similar to writer Kim (laughs)."

Despite working with top-tier stars, Seo Yeong-eun's thorny personality remains unchanged, often leading to clashes with the main characters of her own works, like Go Seung-ya.

This is Song Yoon-ah's second time playing a screenwriter, the first being in the 2000 movie "Immortal Masterpiece." Regarding how different the screenwriter Seo Yeong-eun is in "On Air," "A few days before airing, the script wasn't ready yet, but Seo Yeong-eun wasn't worried at all, 'The structure of the script is difficult, but writing the lines is simple,' showing her real competence. Actually, I hadn't thought much about the profession of a writer before, but while reading the script of "On Air," I marveled at the screenwriting skills of writers. Writer Kim's scripts are very interesting, making me curious about what kind of person could write such texts?"

Another reason "On Air" has become a topic of discussion is that it tells many behind-the-scenes stories from the entertainment industry and TV production, "There are indeed many true stories in the drama, some of which I, even as someone in the entertainment industry, didn't know."

Of course, for the sake of the show's watchability, the drama mainly reflects notorious scandals, so the directors and writers were worried about whether they would get criticized after airing, thus handling these carefully.

"Regardless, if handled poorly, negative examples might tarnish the entire industry, but in fact, these are only a small part of the entertainment world. Even so, when selecting the script, I read through four episodes of the script. The story is very interesting."

Song Yoon-ah also attempts something new in this drama; she will play a mother for the first time. In "On Air," writer Seo is a divorced woman whose son is in middle school. "Interestingly, I'm the same age as the mother of the young actor playing my son. Playing a mother is fun; nowadays, mothers are all young and beautiful, so even though I play a mother in the drama, there isn't much change in reality."
