Phoenix Quartet Episode Introduction
Late Qing Dynasty. The first generation begins with a story of an arranged marriage during the late Qing period. The heroine, Wei Yu Feng, is a well-educated young lady, gentle yet strong-willed with a resilient character. She shares a childhood romance with the family chef, Yu Ci, but due to her family's financial decline, she is forced to marry Wang Yu Lin, the son of a prominent official, unwillingly tying the knot with Wang Yu Lin (played by Chen Jianfeng). Later, when Lin squanders their family fortune, Feng sells the keepsake from her first love, Yu Ci (played by Ma Dezhong), and establishes Phoenix Tower. This reflects the sorrow of blind and silent arranged marriages and the resilience of women in the face of adversity. Related Phoenix Quartet episode introductions.
