Introduction to the Episodes of Zhao Wenzhuo's Tai Chi
Enduring Harsh Treatment
During a military hunting trip, a wild boar was shot but taken away by Wu Ma. The soldiers surrounded Wu Ma, but he fought them off and escaped successfully. On another occasion, Feng Nian went to the market with his mother Pu Shi and his fiancée Qing Sang to sell vegetables. During this time, Pu Shi treated Qing Sang harshly, but she endured it silently. In Episode 7 of Tai Chi, the villagers were informed by the wealthy Ning family that they would have to pay taxes, causing much distress among them.
Wu Ma took the wild boar to the market to exchange for a bag of rice but encountered Ning's army demanding taxes from him. Wu Ma refused and angered Ning. Meanwhile, Feng Nian often visited Wu Ma on the mountain, expressing his desire to be friends, but Wu Ma, being solitary by nature, didn't say much.
Feng Nian injured his foot due to Wu Ma and was carried down the mountain by him. However, Mi Pu accused Wu Ma of harming her son. Wu Ma's home was burned down by Ning, so he went to Ning's house to cause trouble and was surrounded by many people. Wu Ma had no choice but to hold Ning's son hostage and lock him inside the house. At this moment, Feng Nian arrived and volunteered to persuade Wu Ma to release Ning's son. Qing Sang, knowing that Feng Nian and Wu Ma were trapped inside the house, brought food inside. After eating, Wu Ma passed out as Qing Sang had secretly added sleeping medicine to the food out of concern for Feng Nian's safety. Wu Ma survived the ordeal despite his injuries and managed to escape with Feng Nian's help. They reached the capital and joined the army hoping to make a name for themselves, only to find out later that they were supposed to kill the younger brother of Zi Gui and Cui Qiao, which they couldn't bring themselves to do and instead helped them escape...
Feng Nian's Confusion Ruins Reputation
After Wu Ma and Feng Nian risked their lives to save the two women and fled to a dilapidated house, their aspirations for officialdom were shattered. However, Wu Ma did not lose heart and proposed going to the capital early the next morning to seek fortune. Feng Nian suggested settling the two women first, but Wu Ma ignored him. That night, Wu Ma saw Cui Qiao washing clothes, but Feng Nian, in the prime of youth, ended up having relations with her, making Cui Qiao his fiancée.
Upon returning to the broken house, Cui Qiao found Zi Gui extremely saddened and tried hard to comfort her. It turned out that the two women were half-sisters, with Cui Qiao's mother being a servant, hence even though she was the elder sister, she was still regarded as a servant. Zi Gui wanted to take revenge on the officer who betrayed her father, but Cui Qiao opposed it. In the morning, Wu Ma set off for the capital alone, while Feng Nian struggled to catch up. Cui Qiao, discovering their plan to go to the capital, falsely claimed there was a bounty on their enemy's head, prompting Wu Ma to decide to kill this person for great merit. Meanwhile, Zi Gui attempted to secretly assassinate the enemy but was stopped by Wu Ma. Wu Ma killed someone in public, catching the attention of Duan Taibei, the leader of the Changlong Sect in the capital, who wanted to arrest him. However, if Wu Ma could withstand three punches from him, he would let him go. Despite his severe injuries, Wu Ma used the Tai Chi techniques taught by Shan Yue to escape safely.
The new mayor arrived, and the merchants wanted to present lavish gifts, but he used them for disaster relief instead. Wu Ma, wanted for murder, met Sang Qing, who was looking for Feng Nian, and with her help, he evaded capture. Someone reported seeing Sang Qing with Wu Ma, and the police chief Chai Wei publicly interrogated Sang Qing harshly. Wu Ma surrendered himself to save her.
Saving Wu Ma - Zi Gui Faces Obstacles
When Feng Nian discovered that Wu Ma had been arrested, he also learned that Sang Qing had come to the capital. The four of them brainstormed strategies, and Zi Gui proposed seeking help from Vice Mayor Xu Jiang. Originally, Zi Gui had an arranged marriage with Xu Jiang's son. However, upon learning of Zi Gui's request, Xu Jiang refused and proposed breaking the engagement. Chai Wei offered assistance but implied that Zi Gui should offer herself in return, causing the two sisters to leave angrily. Zi Gui visited Wu Ma in prison and was shocked to learn that he was scheduled for execution the next day.
On the other side, Mayor Zhuo personally visited the Changlong Hall to meet with Tai Bei. A dangerous Soviet boxer had challenged local experts, and Mayor Zhuo wanted Tai Bei to fight, but Tai Bei declined and recommended his friend Shan Yue instead. While Feng Nian and others were at a loss, they remembered encountering Shan Yue and sought his help. It turned out that Shan Yue and Mayor Zhuo were old friends, and Mayor Zhuo granted a special pardon to Wu Ma on the condition that he represented them in the match against the Soviet fighter and won. Zi Gui, feeling utterly defeated, prepared to collect Wu Ma's body but found that he hadn't been executed.
Believing he was destined to die, Wu Ma was taken to a mountain Taoist temple and then released. Confused, he encountered Shan Yue, the master who had abandoned him years ago. Wu Ma cried in his teacher's arms, and Shan Yue shed tears as well. Cui Qiao and Zi Gui wanted to visit Wu Ma, but he refused to see them, citing his training. Cui Qiao broke into the temple and told him about Zi Gui's sacrifices for him...
Feng Nian’s Troubles with Two Women
Since reuniting with Sang Qing, Feng Nian has been inseparable from her, causing Cui Qiao immense sadness. Cui Qiao demanded that Feng Nian make her his primary wife, leaving him greatly troubled. In his distress, Feng Nian sought advice from Shan Yue but failed to understand the principles involved. When Feng Nian and Cui Qiao were intimate, Sang Qing unexpectedly walked in, leaving her deeply hurt as she stormed out and burst into tears on the bridge. As Feng Nian and Sang Qing were arguing on the bridge, Wu Ma happened to pass by and struck Feng Nian. Back at the inn, the three sat in silence until Sang Qing graciously declared her willingness to let go.
As Feng Nian bid farewell, he entrusted Sang Qing to explain the situation to his mother. However, when Sang Qing said goodbye to Wu Ma, she was detained by Shan Yue to help arrange meals for everyone. To help Wu Ma master the essence of Tai Chi, Shan Yue specially trained him using tofu, but with little progress. The Soviet ambassador met with Xu Jiang and Chai Wei, boasting that he had placed a large bet on the fighter's victory and asked them to investigate the abilities of Shan Yue and Wu Ma. Through various tests, they discovered that Shan Yue's skills were unfathomably deep. During Wu Ma's intensive training, he was inspired by Sang Qing and realized the practical application of soft force deflection.
To ensure the Soviet fighter's victory, Xu Jiang and others hired hitmen to injure Wu Ma. When Zi Gui visited Wu Ma, she found him brutally hitting trees to torture himself. Unable to bear it, she convinced him to flee the capital with her, but they were ultimately stopped by Sang Qing. On the eve of the match, Shan Yue used a feather to convey his meaning, saying that if Wu Ma could grasp the essence of Tai Chi, he could win even if injured...
Wu Ma Fights Hard Against the Boxer
On the day of the match, everyone cheered for Wu Ma. Initially, Wu Ma tried to win with brute force, resulting in repeated defeats. Just as the Soviet boxer was gloating, the severely injured Wu Ma recalled his childhood teachings from Shan Yue and successfully used Tai Chi to defeat his opponent. After the match, Cui Qiao asked Feng Nian when he planned to take her back to their hometown, but Feng Nian expressed his desire to establish a career first.
Cui Qiao decided to use her savings to open a restaurant in the capital with Feng Nian. When everyone was preparing supplies, they were obstructed by Chai Wei. Just as he was about to take everyone back to the police station, Wu Ma appeared and intervened, making Chai Wei furious. Xu Jiang and Chai Wei complained that their son had unfortunately contracted tuberculosis and were worried about continuing the family line. Chai Wei suggested that Xu Jiang reconsider the marriage proposal with Zi Gui and promised to facilitate it on his behalf.
Feng Nian and Cui Qiao opened their restaurant, and Chai Wei surprisingly showed up with a dowry, publicly proposing to Zi Gui, leaving everyone unsure how to respond. While practicing martial arts, Zi Gui suddenly visited Wu Ma and accidentally injured Sang Qing. Seeing Wu Ma's kindness towards Sang Qing, Zi Gui left in a hurry. Wu Ma chased after her and heard her announce her upcoming marriage, to which he simply replied: 'Congratulations'.
Heartbroken, Zi Gui accepted Cui Qiao's advice and temporarily left the capital. When Shan Yue entertained his friend Hai Xin, they discussed how war affected innocent children. Sang Qing, who was originally alone, spontaneously expressed her wish to follow Hai Xin as a nun to care for orphans. When Cui Qiao asked if Wu Ma cared about Sang Qing leaving, something unexpected happened...
