Introduction to the Full Plot of "Living Is Truly Great"
This drama tells the story of a family living under the shadow of a history of breast cancer. The eldest daughter, Jian Jie (played by Ding Jiali), has lived with her father for many years, while the second daughter, Jian Ning (played by Wang Jinghua), and the youngest daughter, Jian Xin (played by Liang Jing), have grown up with their mother (played by Gui Yalai). When this family reunites, a series of changes occur in their lives. Jian Ning is the manager of the guest room department at a hotel and is competing for the position of operations director; her daughter, Chen Huan, is about to take the high school entrance exam; her husband, Chen Lisheng (played by Wang Luoyong), as the head of the Chinese Department at a university, is busy applying for special research funds. The family is harmonious and happy, having just paid the down payment on a house and looking forward to the future with great happiness. However, one evening, Jian Ning unexpectedly discovers a lump in her breast while taking a shower...
Encouraged by Chen Lisheng, Jian Ning checks into the hospital and undergoes a series of diagnoses, eventually painfully undergoing a mastectomy. The perfectionist Jian Ning struggles to face her incomplete self, influenced by her mother's marriage philosophy. After the surgery, she begins uncontrollably suspecting that her husband, Chen Lisheng, is having an affair with his student, Tian Xiaoli. She withdraws from the hotel competition, retreats from normal social life, and locks herself in a state of increasing suspicion and turmoil regarding Chen Lisheng. Deeply in love with Jian Ning, Chen Lisheng suffers a series of blows and becomes disillusioned with their marriage, eventually engaging in a relationship with Tian Xiaoli, which mistakenly makes headlines, turning him into a "public enemy of social morality."
The collapse of their marriage leaves Jian Ning heartbroken and devastated when she discovers another lump in her chest. With the help of Dr. Lu Chenfeng (played by Tao Zheru), she begins to let go of her psychological burdens and resolutely faces the surgery alone...
Famous program producer and host Jian Xin from the TV station's news department is a spirited and successful woman. She skillfully navigates between her married boss, Director Shao (played by Gao Jingwen), and her boyfriend, Ding Yino (played by Hai Yitian). Jian Ning's illness ignites a long-standing fear within her. Since learning about the lump in her breast, she has been rushing around for the documentary selection process, causing misunderstandings among her friends.
As Jian Xin prepares for her hospital stay, her boyfriend, Ding Yino, chooses to give up his opportunity to go to Europe and fully supports her, deeply touching Jian Xin. During her hospitalization, Jian Xin's condition is unique, requiring two biopsies. The hospital repeatedly invites experts and doctors for consultations but delays in reaching a conclusion. At the TV station, her competitor takes advantage of the situation to poach her key staff, leaving her show dependent solely on Duoji from Tibet, making it precarious. Meanwhile, Director Shao plans to divorce his wife, who has breast cancer, causing a scandal throughout the station. In her interactions with Ding Yino, Jian Xin discovers her own vulnerabilities and dependence on him, creating awkwardness and doubts about their love.
In the torment of hospitalization, Jian Xin rekindles her friendship with Duoji, a Tibetan man who chooses to leave quietly during the final stages of leukemia. She also meets young bone cancer patient Lu Wei, who profoundly impacts her. Unable to bear the immense pressure, Ding Yino ultimately breaks up with Jian Xin, leading her to begin re-evaluating the meaning of life. In the end, Jian Xin decides to abandon surgery and instead adopt Dr. Lu Chenfeng's method of treating blood stasis with traditional Chinese medicine. Determined to be discharged, she no longer worries about her pain and embarks on a journey to Tibet to find Duoji...
Older sister Jian Jie harbors resentment towards her family deep inside but continues to care for her mother and two younger sisters. On the day Jian Jie is preparing to marry Ju Li, her ex-husband, the artistic youth Ran Yang, suddenly appears. Out of kindness, Jian Jie finds him a place to stay and takes on the responsibility of caring for him and his child. This creates a crisis in Jian Jie's relationship with Ju Li. How will Ju Li react to his rival, Ran Yang?...
