Lu Zhenhua was a commander in Northeast Province in the early years of the Republic of China. One day, while riding with his troops through the city, he nearly knocked down a civilian woman named Fu Wenpei. Despite knowing that Wenpei was already engaged to another man, Zhenhua disregarded this and insisted on sending betrothal gifts, subsequently marrying her the next day as his eighth concubine.
