Plot Introduction
The WWII epic masterpiece "The Pacific War" created by Hollywood renowned director Steven Spielberg and Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks will premiere on HBO on March 14th. This is the second collaboration between the two after the TV series "Band of Brothers".
"The Pacific War" only has 10 episodes, and it took 7 years to prepare and film, costing a staggering $223 million, making it the most expensive short TV series in history. Tom Hanks, Spielberg, and Gary Goetzman jointly served as producers, and this is the first time Hanks and Spielberg have collaborated on producing a TV series since "Band of Brothers".
The main battles depicted in the series include: the Guadalcanal Campaign from August 1942 to February 1943; the Bougainville Campaign from November 1943 to March 1944, especially the Cape Gloucester landing battle in November 1943 and the tropical jungle battle; the Peleliu Island battle in 1944; the Iwo Jima battle from February 16 to March 26, 1945; and the Okinawa battle from April 1, 1945 to June 21, 1945. The story ends on Victory over Japan Day - August 15, 1945, which Americans refer to as "V-J Day".
The TV series almost covers all the important battles of the U.S. military in the Pacific War, recreating the heart-wrenching scenes.
