Plot introduction:
A long, long time ago, when the world was not yet cast into a steel jungle, and technology had not yet advanced to invincibility, the masters of the Nordic lands were the nomadic Vikings who mainly relied on hunting and fishing for their livelihood. As the sun rose and set, the strong, tall Viking pirates and their wives and children lived happy and comfortable lives. But just as modern people are disturbed by flies, mosquitoes, rats, and stinkbugs, the Vikings also had troublesome 'pests'—dragons. The invasion of those flying, fire-breathing, fanged dragons made the Viking pirates restless and sleepless. Thus, generation after generation of pirate leaders took their tribesmen to fight the flying dragons to the death.
If Hiccup's (Jay Baruchel) father's father's father's father, each generation, were dragon-slaying heroes, then he, as the son of the pirate leader (Gerard Butler), has absolutely failed to inherit the family's excellent bloodline. This unambitious child is weak and incapable, afraid even to step on an ant, and there isn't a trace of pirate spirit in him. Just looking at his thin and small physique, his "great ambition" of dreaming to become a great Viking pirate always earns him ridicule from his companions.
When the fiery beasts attacked the Viking settlement again, even the blacksmith he was helping advised him to stay far away.
Little Hiccup wouldn't believe in evil. Without six-pack abs, his clever mind was his most powerful weapon! After crafting a dragon trap himself, he secretly took the device and prepared to capture a fierce dragon. Coincidentally, his amateur skills actually managed to catch a dragon by accident. And this newly hatched, toothless dragon almost scared him into wetting his pants. Gathering his courage and picking up a sharp knife, Hiccup hardened his heart to prepare to end the life of the dragon bound by the ropes with one swift cut! But upon seeing the dragon's pleading and desperate eyes, his already wavering courage instantly disappeared. He cut the ropes binding the dragon and nervously fed it fish, unexpectedly discovering that the dragon race, which was rumored to be ferocious and murderous, was actually inherently kind and enthusiastic, and could be tamed. However, his father, the chief, didn't think so, his kind and friendly master didn't think so, and the girl he liked, Astrid (America Ferrera), didn't think so either. The battle between humans and dragons was about to begin, can young Hiccup stop this completely unnecessary conflict in time?
