The previous series, "Heroine", depicted the Wuxi rice industry led by Qing Fengnian. This series, however, is based on the theme of opium, which harmed the nation, and is set against the backdrop of Guangzhou in the 1930s. The story spans from the period of the Nanjing government to the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. This drama reflects the turmoil of a great era, where people help each other, love each other, and struggle to survive amidst suffering, revealing the true nature of humanity.
