Season 8 of "24" begins in New York, home to the iconic symbol of American freedom, the Statue of Liberty. On a new day, CTU reopens under a new leader, Brian Hastings (Mykelti Williamson, Forrest Gump), who has a sharp mind honed by his MBA. Former Marine Cole Ortiz (Freddie Prinze Jr.) joins CTU with the hope of following in Jack Bauer's footsteps and will be responsible for field operations. The new additions to CTU also include data analysis expert Dana Walsh (Katee Sackhoff, Battlestar Galactica) and systems analysis expert Arlo Glass (John Boyd). Rob Weiss (Chris Diamantopoulos) becomes President Allison Taylor's (Cherry Jones) new Chief of Staff, and journalist Meredith Reed (Jennifer Westfeldt, Grey’s Anatomy) is also drawn into the events of this day.
In addition to Jack and the President, Chloe, played by Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Renee Walker, played by Annie Wersching, will return for Season 8. Bollywood star Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire) will make his debut on American television, portraying Omar Hassan, a Middle Eastern leader on a peace mission to the United States.
