In the early Western Han period, young Dou Yifang's family was massacred because her mother was involved in a palace struggle. Growing up, she accidentally became a servant in the palace due to a mix-up. She cleverly switches the son of Consort Zhou with the daughter of Empress Dowager Lü—Empress Zhang Yan. Empress Dowager Lü appreciates her intelligence and diligence and sends her under the guise of an arranged marriage to the Dai Kingdom to monitor Liu Heng and his mother.
