Plot Summary:
Created by Hollywood director Steven Spielberg and Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks, the WWII epic "The Pacific War" premiered on HBO on March 14th. This marks the second collaboration between Spielberg and Hanks after their work on "Band of Brothers."
"The Pacific War" consists of only 10 episodes but took 7 years to prepare and film, with a staggering budget of $223 million, making it the most expensive miniseries in history. Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Gary Goetzman served as executive producers, marking the first time Hanks and Spielberg have teamed up to produce a TV series since "Band of Brothers."
The series covers major battles including: The Guadalcanal Campaign from August 1942 to February 1943; The Bougainville Campaign from November 1943 to March 1944, particularly the Cape Gloucester landings in November 1943 and jungle warfare; The Battle of Peleliu in 1944; The Battle of Iwo Jima from February 16 to March 26, 1945; and The Battle of Okinawa from April 1 to June 21, 1945. The story concludes on Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day) on August 15, 1945.
The miniseries encompasses nearly all the key battles fought by U.S. forces in the Pacific War, vividly recreating the harrowing and intense combat scenes.
