Synopsis:
This series is created by the Emmy-winning duo Joe Russo and Anthony Russo (Arrested Development). While most sitcoms revolve around themes of "love," "family," "life," or "work," this show takes a different approach by focusing on higher education. CBS's "The Big Bang Theory" is one successful example of this genre in recent years. How does the U.S. address the issue of "difficulty accessing education"? How do adults who have entered the workforce but wish to further their education pursue higher learning? This sitcom provides some answers to these questions.
The students at Greendale Community College are somewhat "special." It's not that they have physical disabilities, but rather that their backgrounds are diverse—ranging from high school underachievers, recently divorced housewives, to elderly individuals committed to lifelong learning. Without the sanctity of an ivory tower, community colleges help these individuals realize their dreams of higher education.
The protagonist is a fast-talking lawyer (played by Joel McHale) who once had a college degree that, due to unforeseen circumstances, became invalid. Unable to return to his original university, he opts for community college. His sharp mind quickly earns him a group of friends, among whom he forms a study group. In reality, their understanding of each other often goes deeper—and proves more valuable—than their knowledge of textbooks and assignments.
