TV series "There Is A Beauty In The North" Full 34 Episodes, based on the revolutionary struggle during the Republic of China era.
The TV series tells the story of the early years of the Republic of China, when Xia Xizun, a newly appointed official of the Ministry of Education under the Beiyang Government, had his two children from his previous marriage lost in the crowd. The siblings were raised by their adoptive parents through many difficulties. The sister, growing up to be stunningly beautiful, had to seek survival strategies in a tough environment. Meanwhile, the brother, influenced by new ideas at school, embarked on a revolutionary path risking his life. There is also a poem with the same title, "There Is A Beauty In The North".
In May 1925, during the rule of the Beiyang warlords and amidst turmoil, Xia Xizun, an official of the Ministry of Education, was traveling by train to Beijing for his new post with his new wife and his two children from his previous marriage. The daughter, Ji Ping, was eight years old, and the son, Zi Jian, was only six. On the train, Xia Xizun enthusiastically discussed Jinan with his new wife, as his father had once operated a tea business in Jinan, and Xia Xizun had lived there with his father, forming a special bond with the city. As the train passed through Jinan, a crew member apologetically informed Xia Xizun that due to the appointment of the new Shandong supervisor, Zhang Zongchang, the entire city was under martial law, and the train would temporarily stop to allow Zhang's special train to pass. To soothe his longing for Jinan and to foster a relationship between his new wife and the children, he persuaded his wife to get off the train and explore Jinan, known as a hub of arts and culture. After many years, Jinan had become bustling with shops and teeming with people, featuring numerous theaters, teahouses, and storytelling booths, filled with music and vibrant urban life.
At Qing Shun Teahouse, Xia Xizun became captivated by the Shandong drum music and neglected his children. Ji Ping, not wanting to stay with her stepmother, took Zi Jian out to play, becoming increasingly engrossed in the local folk songs she heard for the first time. As the two children were enjoying themselves, Zhang Zongchang's convoy passed by, causing chaos among the crowd. Ji Ping, unable to control herself, was swept away with Zi Jian in the commotion. Xia Xizun, realizing the disturbance on the streets, remembered his children and rushed out but could only watch helplessly as the siblings disappeared in the crowd. Ji Ping tightly held onto Zi Jian's hand, but after the chaos subsided, they found themselves lost.
Zi Jian, frightened, was comforted by Ji Ping, who embraced him tightly. Her cries drew the attention of a passerby. Believing she had encountered a savior, Ji Ping told the person about getting separated from her father and needing to find him at the New Market. The person offered to take them there, but unbeknownst to Ji Ping, it was a child trafficker.
Xia Xizun frantically searched for his children without success and sought help from Zhang Zongchang. Zhang, furious over the disruption of his entrance ceremony, ignored Xia's plea. By then, Ji Ping and Zi Jian had already been taken into the trafficker's vehicle. As they passed by Zhang's residence, Xia Xizun thought he heard Ji Ping's voice but was interrupted by a soldier reporting news, missing his chance to reunite with his children.
The children were taken to the trafficker's home. Upon realizing their situation, Ji Ping clung to her brother, showing unexpected maturity. She fiercely resisted the trafficker while looking for opportunities to escape. Xia Xizun, unsuccessful in finding his children and pressured to assume his post in Beijing, considered resigning but was dissuaded by his wife. Before leaving for his post, he vowed to return to Jinan to search for his children.
The trafficker dressed the children in local clothes and brought them to the Shanshui Gou market to look for buyers, but Ji Ping cleverly hid her original clothes. Using the excuse of poverty, the trafficker tried to sell the children. When Zi Jian was about to be bought, Ji Ping lunged forward, holding onto her brother and shouting that the man was a trafficker and would report anyone who dared buy them. The trafficker beat and cursed Ji Ping, but she remained undaunted. Suddenly, Ji Ping noticed a kind-looking, neatly dressed elder nearby and clung to his leg like a lifeline. The elder, named Wang Dafu, ran a steamed bun shop in the Scissors Alley and was there to buy grain with his donkey cart. Ji Ping pleaded with him to take the siblings home. After much hesitation, the kind-hearted elder used all his eleven silver dollars meant for grain to buy the children from the trafficker and anxiously took them home, pondering how to deal with his fiery-tempered wife.
