TV series "There is a Beauty in the North" Full 34 Episodes, with the theme of the revolutionary road of resistance during the Republic of China era.
The TV series tells the story of the early Republic of China when Xia Xizun, the newly appointed official of the Ministry of Education under the Beiyang Government, lost his two children from his previous marriage while traveling to Beijing to take up his new post. The siblings grew up with many difficulties under the care of their adoptive parents. The sister, having grown into a beautiful young woman, had to seek survival in the cracks of society. Meanwhile, her brother, influenced by new ideas at school, embarked on a revolutionary path of resistance, risking his life. There is also a poem of the same name, "There is a Beauty in the North."
In May 1925, during the rule of the Beiyang warlords, chaos reigned. Xia Xizun, an official of the Ministry of Education, was on a train to Beijing with his new wife and his two children from his first marriage. His daughter Ji Ping was eight years old, and his son Zi Jian was only six. On the train, Xia Xizun was enthusiastically discussing Jinan with his new wife. Xia Xizun's father had once operated a tea business in Jinan, and he had lived there with his father, developing a special affection for the city. When the train passed through Jinan, a crew member apologetically informed Xia Xizun that due to the appointment of the new Shandong supervisor Zhang Zongchang, the entire city was under martial law, and the train had temporarily stopped to allow Zhang Zongchang's special train to pass. To soothe his longing for Jinan and to foster a bond between his new wife and children, he persuaded his wife to get off the train and explore Jinan, known as the land of music and art. After many years, Jinan had become bustling with shops lining the streets, crowds of people, and numerous theaters, teahouses, and bookstalls scattered like stars, filled with the sounds of stringed instruments and songs, showcasing a vibrant urban scene.
At the Qing Shun Teahouse, Xia Xizun became engrossed in the Shandong drum performance and did not want to leave. Ji Ping, unwilling to be with her stepmother, took her brother Zi Jian out to play. Xia Xizun, absorbed in the performance, agreed. Ji Ping led Zi Jian farther and farther away, captivated by the folk tunes she heard for the first time. As the two children were enjoying themselves, Zhang Zongchang's convoy happened to pass by, causing chaos in the crowd. Ji Ping was helplessly swept away with Zi Jian in the throng. Xia Xizun, realizing the commotion on the street and remembering his children, ran out but could only watch as his children were swallowed by the crowd. Ji Ping tightly held onto Zi Jian's hand, but when the crowd dispersed, they lost their way back.
Zi Jian was frightened, and Ji Ping hugged her brother tightly. Her cries attracted someone who Ji Ping thought was a savior. She told him they had been separated from their father and needed to find him at the New Market. This person asked them to follow him, promising to lead them to the New Market. Ji Ping was delighted but didn't realize they had encountered a human trafficker.
Xia Xizun searched frantically for his children without success and sought Zhang Zongchang's help. Zhang Zongchang, furious about the disruption of his entrance ceremony, ignored Xia Xizun's plea. At this moment, Ji Ping and Zi Jian were already on the human trafficker's vehicle. As they passed by Zhang's residence, Xia Xizun seemed to hear Ji Ping's voice, but just then, a soldier came to report, leaving Xia Xizun no time to act, missing the chance to reunite with his children.
The children were taken to the human trafficker's home. Upon realizing they had been abducted, Ji Ping embraced her brother tightly, seeming to mature overnight. In the human trafficker's house, Ji Ping showed no fear, resisting fiercely while looking for an opportunity to escape. Xia Xizun searched everywhere without success, and with urgent demands from Beijing, he considered giving up his position, but his wife was reluctant to let go. Before taking office, he vowed to return to Jinan to look for his children.
The human trafficker made the children wear local clothes and took them to the Shanshui Gou market to find buyers. Carefully, Ji Ping hid her original clothes. The human trafficker claimed poverty as the reason for selling the children. Just as Zi Jian was about to be sold, Ji Ping rushed forward, hugging her brother and shouting that they were human traffickers, warning anyone who dared buy them that she would report it to the authorities. The human trafficker beat and cursed Ji Ping, but she remained undaunted. Suddenly, Ji Ping saw a kind-looking, neatly dressed elderly man nearby. She clung to the man's leg like a lifeline. The elderly man was named Wang Dafu, who owned a steamed bun shop in the Scissors Alley. He was driving a donkey cart to buy grain at the market. Ji Ping clung to Wang Dafu, begging him to buy the siblings. The kind-hearted elder hesitated but eventually spent all eleven silver dollars meant for grain to buy the children from the human trafficker, nervously taking the children home, pondering how to deal with his hot-tempered wife.
