This drama aims to explore people's current view on happiness. It conveys deep meanings through laughter and criticism, allowing the audience to reflect on the strange realities of society and the restless mindset of seeking quick success, using a small person's "non-action" and "silent teaching" to interpret the most simple and pure view of happiness.
Fu Xijiangu, known as Fu Lao Da, lost his parents at an early age. As the eldest son, he raised three younger brothers and a sister, sending them all to universities in Beijing. When his siblings grew up and achieved success in their careers, he had already missed the prime time of his life: his marriage failed due to infertility, and after being laid off, he became a foot therapist. However, he faced everything with enough optimism and still held onto his career and life ideals - to become a masseur and a father. By chance, he met Lele, a child with autism, and they immediately hit it off. Lele's mother Mei Hao was abandoned by her husband and raised Lele alone, falling into financial difficulties. Lao Da saved Mei Hao who attempted suicide, recognized Lele as his godson, and took Mei Hao as his apprentice, teaching her foot therapy. The three lived together dependently, leading a peaceful life in a small city in Northeast China.
At this time, the brothers and sisters living in Beijing returned to their hometown in Northeast China to relocate the graves of their long-deceased parents. Fu Ji'an, the second brother of the Fu family, sent Xin Wen, the administrative director of his company Ji'an Group, back to the hometown in advance to arrange the itinerary. Lao Da was deceived in the second-hand mobile phone market and bought a stolen mobile phone, which happened to be Xin Wen's. When the Fu siblings reunited in the old house, the police came to investigate the matter of the mobile phone. Ji'an felt humiliated and angrily fired Xin Wen. The younger brothers and sisters all thought that the eldest brother was not happy. They didn't want the eldest brother to continue doing the "lowly job" of pressing people's feet and decided to change his lifestyle, bringing him to live in Beijing. However, Lao Da did not feel unhappy himself, but he was also afraid of delaying his younger siblings' affairs, so he decided to temporarily cooperate with their arrangements and enjoy a few days of comfort in Beijing. After arranging for Mei Hao and her son, Lao Da followed his younger siblings to Beijing.
After arriving in Beijing, Ji'an settled Lao Da in his own home, but due to differences in living habits and concepts, there were big and small conflicts. During his visit to Ji'an's company, Lao Da coincidentally met Xin Wen who was preparing to quit. Out of guilt, Lao Da made every effort to retain Xin Wen and persuaded Zhang Qiang, Xin Wen's boyfriend, not to break up with her because she was quitting. A series of discomforts made Lao Da feel that he should return to Shun Cheng to lead his own life soon. Just as he was about to leave, Mei Hao suddenly arrived in Beijing with Lele. It turned out that Lele's condition had worsened, and the manager of the foot therapy center asked her to take her child to Beijing to find Lao Da.
In order for Lele to undergo rehabilitation training at a kindergarten for autistic children in Beijing, Lao Da decided to stay in Beijing. He rented a house for Mei Hao and her son and went to work at his younger brother's company to earn money. Initially feeling lost, Lao Da gradually discovered that all the white-collar workers in the company had varying degrees of health problems, and he began to adjust their bodies and do health care. Lao Da also found Mei Hao a job at a foot therapy shop. In their daily lives together, they developed a sincere affection for each other, evolving from master and apprentice to lovers. However, their relationship encountered strong opposition from the Fu family siblings.
Led by the second brother, the siblings believed that the eldest brother would not be happy with Mei Hao, a foot therapist with a sick child, and thus began a "rescue" operation for the eldest brother. They tried to matchmake the eldest brother with Xin Wen, a senior white-collar worker. First, they arranged for the eldest brother to work under Xin Wen, then let Xin Wen personally teach the eldest brother how to drive, creating opportunities for the two. Xin Wen clearly understood the situation but completed it like work. However, in a series of hilarious events, Xin Wen was gradually moved by the eldest brother's kindness, attentiveness, and sincerity. This seemingly strong woman who craved tenderness inside gradually understood the eldest brother, and the two slowly became good friends.
Due to the continuous interference of the eldest brother's younger siblings, Mei Hao had to leave the eldest brother. Amidst her sorrow, she also found new opportunities and choices in the dazzling metropolis and began to re-examine her relationship with the eldest brother. Mrs. Xia, an elderly lady whom Mei Hao massaged, liked Mei Hao's gentle character very much and wanted her to be her daughter-in-law. Faced with real obstacles and what seemed to be a better choice, Mei Hao's heart underwent a painful struggle.
In sharp contrast to the honest and straightforward eldest brother, his several younger siblings had completely different ways of living. The second brother Fu Ji'an was the mainstay of the Fu family and the most successful person in the Fu clan. In reality, however, he was a very fragile person who pretended to be tough, living a superficially glamorous upper-class life. Due to the betrayal of his ex-wife in his early years, he had become disheartened about love and regarded money as the most real thing. He maintained a nominal contract marriage with Ming Yue, a model. Vanity and flamboyance were her biggest traits. Everything was hard-fought, with true feelings pretending to be indifferent. Later, due to a broken capital chain, he went bankrupt. With the help of Ming Yue and the eldest brother, he overcame the difficulties and returned to his family; the third brother Fu Jizhao was a civil servant who lived under the shadow of his wife, although he had no intention of pursuing a career in politics, but still lived under the shadow of his wife Xiaonan who hoped her husband would succeed, making their marital relationship increasingly tense; the fourth brother Jixing was a third-rate actor in the Beijing entertainment circle. Chasing vanity, he borrowed money to buy a luxury house, struggling to make money to repay the loan. Even when injured or sick, he didn't forget to rush to make money. His wife Miaomiao was pregnant but dared not tell him. Eventually, with the help of the eldest brother, he returned to reality, woke up from the dream of luxury housing, and had his own child; the youngest sister Fu Jiping originally lived a comfortable life teaching piano to students, but due to being obsessed with the stock market, she became a "stock crazy" who gambled with all her assets. Almost losing everything, she also gave up fighting, only wanting to marry a rich man and ignoring the lover beside her. In the end, her fantasy broke, and it was the eldest brother who helped her win back true love and find happiness.
