The 2010 emotional drama series "Peers", through the stories of a few people who are the same age as the People's Republic of China, reflects the changes in the era over the past sixty years since the founding of New China.
Plot Introduction:
"Peers" is Qing Xu's first television work after the film "The Founding of A Republic", and also the TV drama with the largest age span that Qing Xu has acted in, from an innocent 16-year-old to a person in their sixties, which is a great test of acting skills. From the trailer, we can see that the "16-year-old" Qing Xu has a short haircut, pure and handsome; while the "near-sixty" Qing Xu exudes an air of nobility, somewhat reminiscent of the "First Lady" in "The Founding of A Republic". Chengwei Ren plays the childhood sweetheart of Qing Xu in the drama, and he also faces the challenge of an age span of 41 years. When revealing the secret of looking younger, he said: "Everyone has experienced being young and full of energy. While filming, I would re-examine my 19-year-old self, and release that vitality and vigor again."
"Peers" takes the development process of the People's Republic as its background. The protagonists, such as Liu Jiefang, Tong Nannan, Li Huailin, and Lin Hong, although each experiencing different careers, lives, and family changes, are all closely related to the fate of the country. They were born in the early days of the founding of the country, went to school in the 1950s and 60s, graduated from high school in the later stages of the Cultural Revolution, some joined the army, some went to factories, and more went to rural areas for re-education. After entering society, they formed huge contrasts with their psychological expectations, thus some fell into decadence, some became dispirited, some thought deeply, and some struggled hard. This drama conducted a comprehensive and multi-angle scan of China from the army to the countryside, from factories to schools over the past sixty years, witnessing the glorious journey that New China has gone through over these 60 years. In addition, while focusing on describing the "peers" of the Republic, this drama also portrayed the survival status of their children, namely the first batch of "post-80s", with considerable length.
