Synopsis:
"The Beauty's Stratagem" was written by renowned screenwriter Yu Zheng, depicting the treacherous landscape of the Han Dynasty's imperial harem where lives are as insignificant as ants and beauty conceals intelligence behind the curtains. This drama continues Yu Zheng's signature style of intricate storytelling while also showcasing a grander scale. Unlike following the old formula of "Gilded Chopsticks and Withered Flowers," it aims to be a period version of "Undercover." The production team and screenwriter Yu Zheng meticulously prepared for nearly two years before initiating this major project.
In the early Western Han period, young Dou Yifang's family was slaughtered due to her mother being involved in a palace struggle. Years later, she accidentally becomes a servant in the palace known as a 'family child.' She devises a plan to switch the son of Consort Zhou with the child of Empress Dowager Lü's granddaughter, Empress Zhang Yan. Impressed by her wit and efficiency, Empress Dowager Lü sends her under the guise of an arranged marriage to the Dai Kingdom to monitor Liu Heng and his mother. For the good of the people and to gain Empress Dowager Lü's trust, Yifang suggests that Liu Heng secretly train troops under the pretense of constructing mausoleums, making everyone see her as a source of trouble. Only Liu Heng always trusts her and makes her empress, together overcoming numerous challenges and ultimately achieving greatness.
