Synopsis of Sword:

During the Anti-Japanese War period, Nationalist senior officer Wu Kefeng, moved by our party's righteousness, joined the revolutionary camp and worked undercover in the enemy ranks as an honorable "undercover general."

Wu Kefeng's fellow officer Ji Shaokang had a romantic relationship with the maid Wang Hanmei in their hometown, resulting in her giving birth to his child. Ji's father arranged for Wang Hanmei to be forcibly married to Wu Kefeng, a junior relative from the same hometown. Wu Kefeng’s parents were understanding and willing to take her in, but Wu Kefeng felt conflicted due to Wang Hanmei’s prior relationship with Ji Shaokang and her unclear political stance. When the country fell into chaos, Wu Kefeng painfully left his hometown and resolutely embarked on the path of resistance, thus no longer concerning himself with family matters.

On the eve of the fall of a besieged city, Wu Kefeng's mother-in-law passed away, and Hanmei sought out her husband to report the death, getting lost in the battlefield and losing her only son. Fortunately, she was rescued from danger by our New Fourth Army. Under the education of our party, Wang Hanmei joined the revolutionary work and was sent deep into the enemy's Central United Front organization, becoming an outstanding special agent for our party.

After the victory in the Anti-Japanese War, Chiang Kai-shek's forces launched a full-scale attack on the liberated areas. Our party activated Wu Kefeng, code-named "Secret Agent No.1," ordering him to carry out counterintelligence missions to weaken the enemy army. Due to operational needs, Wang Hanmei, code-named "Secret Agent No.2," also went to the military to specifically assist Wu Kefeng. Ji Shaokang, who had become a secret agent for the Central United Front, was dispatched to the army to execute anti-espionage missions. The three compatriots with deep grudges gathered on the battlefield. In the midst of impending storms, they each displayed their skills, entangled in complex emotions, yet remained tense and ready for battle, engaging in dangerous behind-the-scenes intelligence struggles against the enemy.

Wu Kefeng cleverly stole the city defense map, secretly destroyed the city defense facilities, persuaded Commander Ma Huai'an... step by step successfully undermining the enemy army and converting many progressive officers. However, under the relentless pursuit of Ji Shaokang and the Military Intelligence Special Envoy Lin Shuangmu, Wu Kefeng frequently found himself in perilous situations, on the brink of exposure. Due to the need for single-line contact, Wang Hanmei long remained unaware of Wu Kefeng's identity. Wu Kefeng knew he owed much to Wang Hanmei but could not apologize face-to-face. The two worked seamlessly together in secret operations but were emotionally intertwined with unresolved grievances. As victory was finally within sight and the opportunity to express heartfelt feelings was near, it was already time for life and death separation. Many comrades, including Wang Hanmei, sacrificed themselves tragically to ensure the success of the mission. Wu Kefeng bade farewell to his comrades in sorrow and set off alone for Nanjing, preparing to face even more arduous challenges.
