Introduction:
"Jewel in the Palace" is a family drama about four siblings named Jade, Gemstone, Coral, and Amber.
Just like bibimbap which is made from a variety of ingredients, it offers the audience a sumptuous feast for a weekend autumn meal.
MBC production staff explained, "Jewel in the Palace tells the story of four children named Jade, Gemstone, Coral, and Amber. When different gemstones are mixed together, will they really shine? When they collide, they may break. From the parents' perspective, all their children are equally precious, so this metaphor is likened to bibimbap."
It further explained, "If family members can coordinate well, they may become beautiful decorations; if their harmony is lacking, they may lose their luster. Jewel in the Palace tells diverse stories happening to each member of the family," clarifying the meaning of the title.
The father, Gung Sang-shik, who has been a doorman at a hotel for 30 years, is portrayed by veteran actor Han Jin-hee, while the vain trouble-making mother, Pi Hye-in, is played by Han Hye-suk.
The eldest daughter, Jade, who appears upright on the outside but secretly hopes to meet a wealthy man to live a good life, is portrayed by Ko Na-eun, with Lee Tae-kun co-starring as her male lead.
