Japanese fantasy writer Nahoko Uehashi is known to many for her work "Guardian of the Spirits." Another one of her fantasy masterpieces, "The Player of the Beast," which weaves a tale around beasts and a young girl, will be adapted into a 50-episode TV animation series. It is scheduled to air on NHK Educational Channel every Saturday from 6:25 PM to 6:50 PM starting January 10, 2009. The protagonist is a girl named Irene who can communicate with the rare and noble beast species known as "King Beasts." The story follows Irene as she becomes an object of contention among various factions within the kingdom due to her special ability, leading her to become entangled in the kingdom's power struggles, showcasing her tumultuous life.
