Introduction:
It's necessary to explain the title of this show: cougar, which refers to the mountain lion. Why use this term? Those familiar with American culture should know that in 2007, "cougar" was chosen as one of the top ten buzzwords by Time magazine. While the word originally means "mountain lion," it is now commonly used to describe mature women who pursue younger men and some people have phonetically translated it as "cool gege." The saying that "women are like wolves at thirty and tigers at forty" seems to hold true both in China and abroad. Some believe this term insults women because there are many cases of older men pursuing young women, yet no one finds it strange. However, others argue that this positively affirms the sexual appeal of these mature women.
People often say, "Thirty like a wolf, forty like a tiger," but can women really balance being good mothers, excelling in their careers, and seeking personal happiness when they reach forty? Jules Cobb (played by Courteney Cox) is determined to try.
In a small town in Florida, you'll find plenty of heavily made-up, scantily clad single mature women. Some don't like marriage, while others have just gone through a divorce. For their own pleasures, they chase after youthful, energetic young men like mountain lions hunting prey. Because of this, the social center of this small town isn't the mansion of celebrities or the glittering nightclubs, but rather the high school football club filled with handsome young men...
Jules tries hard to distance herself from these types of women, but she can't escape the shadow of her divorce or the forty pairs of eyes staring at her with strange looks, making her back feel cold. She yearns for a more exciting life, which requires her to take "initiative." Suitable, same-age single men have almost become an "endangered species" - such as her neighbor, nicknamed "Silver Fox" Grayson Ellis (played by Josh Hopkins), whose gaze never leaves the newly adult, sizzling teenagers. What makes Jules awkward is that this playboy happens to be her son Tad's (played by Dan Byrd) "psychological counselor."
Under the strong persuasion of her friend Elle (played by Christa Miller) and her assistant Laurie (played by Busy Philipps), Jules reluctantly abandons her "principles" and re-enters the social circle dominated by flirtatious individuals. To her surprise, she gets along very well with a young man named Bobby (played by Brian Van Holt). The beautiful and mature Jules and the youthful Bobby share things each admires about the other, and their significant age difference is their only obstacle.
